I've never had trouble cooking penne to the proper texture, sauce will stick to it and go inside. It also works great in baked pasta dishes. I don't know what the penne haters are even doing, it's the most versatile shape.

Penne sucks but ziti is just lazy. None of the ridges of penne, none of the jaunty curls of macaroni, what are we doing here

It brings a viable substitute for whatever other pasta you'd use. The grooves hold sauce close enough to a long pasta and the hole holds sauce close enough to rotini or shells. It's a universal second best and I think that's wonderful

I've got a niche pick. I hate orrechiette. They want to hold sauce but they don't. They get nestled into each other when they're cooking so that you get surprised by an extremely underdone noodle in a stack of them. Trash ass ear food.

I have thought about it for a few minutes and I agree. It doesn't hold enough sauce or anything on or in it, and it's not fun to eat like the twirly pastas. And it doesn't fit nicely into a large spoon like macaronis.

macaroni elbows suck actually and the only reason anyone likes them is trauma nostalgia from the rare "cooked" meal your alcoholic parents bothered to make for you same goes for hamburger helper. I'm sorry she didn't love you enough to quit

Bucatini. It's just spaghetti that refuses to be slurped up. "Oh, it's hollow so it can be filled with sauce" Only if your sauce is as thin as water, in which case your bloodline is weak and no-one will mourn you.

I love and will eat them all. However, I like the concept of orecchiette, but they tend to try to nest in each other no matter how much space they have in the water, and that ends up making some stacks of little ear-shaped pasta that aren’t cooked evenly with the rest of the batch.

Penne. It's not cooked, it's not cooked, it's not cooked, it's splitting into ribbons because it's overcooked. This is all in the space of 90 seconds. It's shite.

On the other hand: if you make a sauce with chunks in it, like nubbins of sausage, or peas, they hide inside the tubes and it's nicer than having to chase them around with your fork.

Cascatelli. Too much going on, and by the time the thick parts are cooked, the thin parts are so soft they’re falling off. A for effort, but if it were a good shape it would have been invented some time in the previous 800+ years of pasta existing.

coin toss between farfalle and spaghetti, and I think spaghetti wins because nobody is really queuing up to use farfalle but for some reason spaghetti is popular despite having no positive traits

as a former employee of Semolina International Pasta who had to prep serving bags in the morning, angel hair was the dirt worst to measure exactly 4 oz

I don’t particularly care for long noodles in Italian sauces, once Marco Polo discovered the Chinese used long noodles better they should have stuck to their cutesy little local shapes, all of which are perfectly adequate ways to get carbs in my belly

Several people have said this and I am forced to conclude I am a forking ninja because I've never had the slightest difficulty forking up an enormous amount of penne into my food hole.

*Hijacks Thread* Squid ink pasta is the worst pasta. “Tastes briny like the sea,” eh? Sure. Maybe while the Deep Water Horizon was spilling a gazillion gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico… And why is that a Good Thing?” *Lands thread in Cuba to receive a hero’s welcome!* 🎉🎁🎊🎃🧨

It's correct and the only reason it's hot is because this is what people assume is the default pasta. There are better pastas for almost every single dish. 75% of spaghetti dishes are improved by using fettuccine, 10% using angel hair, and 10% bucatini.

When I was 10 I ate some Angel Hair pasta. That night I got a terrible stomach ache, ended up going to the hospital, and had my appendix removed. The evidence is clear: Angel Hair pasta causes Appendicitis. Consume at your own risk. I've never eaten it since.

Here me out... toss is in a little bit of olive oil and salt, then put it in your air fryer for 20 minutes instead of boiling. Then it's like the tater tots of pasta: crispy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside!
