This administration's need to use shitty AI to tell their story is really something. Also, this bangs and is a total self own.

How racist and desperate do you have to be to look at this and say, “Got ‘em!”?

the fact that trump is an ultra rapist and apex sex predator should always be juxtaposed with the fact that he launched his campaign slandering immigrants as rapists and a staple of his filthy rhetoric is raising the specter of the beastial man of color menacing white women

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

A serial rapist was elected twice as President, a fact we don't reckon with nearly enough. Now one of two major political parties has been molded in his image, run for and by violent sexual abusers who hate women.

The Israeli government is trying to foment violence between Jews and Palestinians, and to make it impossible for Palestinians to harvest their olive groves, drive on their roads, or live in their homes.

Was going to gas this up either way because I'm a good soldier, but for the record I really, really like the design on Chicago DSA's school board voter guide, both in terms of aesthetics and the information it's trying to convey to the reader. Highly recommend chicagodsa.org/boe/#on-the-...

I broke this story in 2011, about the first major publisher-imposed loan restrictions on ebooks (the only truly big story of my trade journalism career). It’s been 15 years, and the only major difference is that public library budgets are lower and what publishers charge libraries has gone up.

In this powerful piece on libraries, this comment stuck out. I went to ALA for the first time this year, and I was struck by the prominent presence of corporate vendors, many of which are sucking libraries dry… www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

BEGGING job applicants to please make sure that your cover letter mentions THE CORRECT POSITION YOU'RE APPLYING FOR. Otherwise, it's an automatic no. Especially for a position that requires attention to detail.

Just called Senator Duckworth's Illinois office to tell them what a cowardly, chickenshit, total abandonment of the oath of office this is, that this attitude is how we got here, and that I will absolutely be supporting primary challengers to Tammy Duckworth next time she's up for reelection.

Meredith Shiner@meredithshiner.com

I had not seen this clip where Tammy Duckworth advises Democrats to "not impeach anybody," "get back to work" and "allow" Donald Trump to "save face" and I would just like to remind the senator from IL that the federal government took 4,000 Chicagoans and murdered a 38-year-old father last fall.

Duncan Sheik has passed away. His music got me through the death of my grandfather, which was the first death that truly shook me to my core. Later, as a poor married couple with an infant, I had tickets to see him but had to sell them. I regret I never got to see him perform. What a loss.

On October 11, 2001, I was traveling to a wedding with a friend to a wedding across the country, and she was pulled out of the boarding line for "extra security." She's Egyptian. She was the only one pulled. I have NEVER forgotten how life changed for her after 9/11. I also lost my naivete then.

I've launched a new limited-run podcast. Liberating Lit brings to listeners the advocacy origin stories of the people who have been defending the right to read and championing literature, with the goal to inspire new advocates and refill the cups of those feeling depleted.

There’s one of these “schools” in Chicago and I’ve heard little in the way of protest or dissent. Parents should not only keep their kids out, they should loudly encourage everyone else to say away. This is NOT a school.

Dietram Scheufele is a sex pest and currently teaches at ASU

Chokely Carmichael🥋@stewartcoles.bsky.social

UW-Madison professor engages in multiple sexual relationships with students, disparages another over their sexual orientation and appearance, creates hostile environment, and department leadership covers it all up. And in true “pass the trash” fashion, moves on to ASU once forced to resign.

CGI still exists. And Ryan Coogler didn’t need AI. Scratching this off the to-watch list.

Deadline@deadline.com

"There's about 30 seconds of it in our movie," the Oscar winner said about using AI to bring the Kray twins and Margaret Thatcher to life on screen.

The dialect quiz said I was from California (54%), which makes sense since I'm from AZ, but the low % also makes sense as I've been with a guy from MA for 25 years AND I've lived in the midwest for nearly 20 years, so some pronunciations and terminologies have shifted.

🔭 Our new policy blog post shows that the number of astronomical sciences research awards made by NSF has decreased by 57% since last year, corresponding to a 51% reduction in funding. (1/2)

Libraries tossing out weeded titles is not a travesty. 🧵 1. libraries MUST weed. We don't have magic shelves with unlimited space. 2. we do try to find alternatives to recycling. Book sales, free tables, and places like Better World Books get the majority of weeded titles. 1/3

3. If you're seeing dumpsters full of books, it's likely for various reasons: they're moldy or damaged; no one wanted them (the librarians asked); or there's an overworked librarian who was tasked with a large project and has a finite amount of time and energy. 2/3

I promise you that the dumpster full of (totally usable, of interest) books is rare. Please, there are so many other things to get upset about. Librarians are tired. 3/3

Getting a little concerned about how many times I'm seeing folks respond to a piece of writing with "that's AI" and I'm like... it is? Because more and more it's getting harder for me to tell. Terrified for the moment when someone accuses me of using AI. IT'S JUST HOW I WRITE.
