The first iteration of my sites arachnid blocker was just a SVG pixelation filter. While the filter worked, it had the potential to fail if the CSS didn't load for whatever reason... suddenly, spiders everywhere! Now the build process will make images, instead of relying on a filter to obscure 🤩

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

Meta and X have been quietly downranking external links for ages, but we're now entering a new era of open hostility toward the open web. It's a great time to build your own website, free from any billionaires demanding a tithe for things that have always been free.

Suw@suw.bsky.social

Fucking hell. Facebook is now limiting the number of links that a page or professional profile can include in a post to TWO PER MONTH, unless you pay them $7.99 a month. Fucking assholes.

Mindful Design and Complete CSS are both fantastic. I've been very slow to work through Mindful Design but I look at nearly everything through a more discerning lens with regard to both Mindfulness and aesthetic. Complete CSS felt easy and very Piccalilli: organization, iterations, and collaboration

While CEO's see "AI" as tool to ensure they no longer have to pay/depend on people, workers adopting "AI" get taught that skills they don't have/other professions are worth less. This destruction of worker solidarity and interdisciplinary collaboration is a core function of the "AI" discourse.

I've had Wave of Mutilation stuck in my head for like 3 days now and for some reason my brain has decided it needs to start swapping around the syllables. What the fuck is a "mute wave of elation"? T-T

someone in a chat I'm in said, paraphrased, "there's a lot of programmers who think that they, the Smart People, know how to use AI for good and everything ELSE is slop but claude code doesn't count" and yeah that is DEF the direction I'm seeing people pivot to dodge resistance against AIgen lately

I'm working on my personal site and the layout is kicking my ass T-T I'm happy with the typography and pretty content with color, but everything I try for the layout either feels uncreative or like it clashes with the next thing. It's very frustrating

🔥 The new “Gap Decorations” API allows us to add borders between grid rows/columns and Flexbox children. I spent some time playing around with it and it’s a lovely new feature. 😄 You can learn more on CSS Tricks:

I've been relearning gleam and trying to learn atproto (beyond just the high-level concepts) by trying my hand at writing a PDS and its so much! and the specs can be so vague! (I'm not very far along, I've got like, a mostly working CAR parser)
