Behold: the first-ever list of news outlets that have banned generative AI in their reporting. As of today, this is literally information that you cannot find on Google. My goal is to fill the starter pack, so please send over suggestions with supporting evidence! go.bsky.app/8cn1XfT

I don't know that there is a definitive line to cross that makes you say, "I live in a police state now" but when masked gunmen can routinely brutalize the public, citizen or immigrant alike, with impunity, you have reached that point.

Kavanaugh stops in action: ICE tackled a non-verbal kid near his school, left him with injuries requiring surgery, and then left the scene when they realized he wasn't the person they were looking for www.independent.com/2026/10/23/i...

Reuters Legal@legal.reuters.com

AI-generated fashion models present a tantalizing opportunity for brands: the ability to create lifelike images for their retail websites while cutting costs by 90% or more compared to photo shoots with human models.

What if, and hear me out, clothing companies paid any one of the 8 billion people on this Earth to model the clothes presumably made for humans?

You have to admit that the entire Bolsonaro family under house arrest in the same house would be a hell of a sitcom.

When pro-AI and pro-surveillance candidates lose in a landslide next week, Garrett Langley will inevitably turn to overthrowing democracy to keep the contracts flowing. These people are incapable of introspection or taking "no" as an answer.

In comments at a private police conference, Flock CEO Garrett Langley said backlash to the company wasn't "real" and the work of "bots." Also he said his wife advised him to never apologize. Read now: www.404media.co/in-leaked-au...

Two things that Rest of World figured out very early on: financial backing from Sophie Schmidt, the daughter of the former Google CEO, and excellent journalism (The Xylom has syndicated a number of their stories) But I couldn't help but notice something was amiss with them in the past couple years:

Julia Métraux@juliametraux.bsky.social

This sucks. Genuinely have enjoyed reading tech articles from Rest of World that has interesting perspectives from the Global South. www.semafor.com/article/10/2...

I also don't think Rest of World made the case why they needed their readers strongly enough. And our world will all suffer as a result: the people who most benefit from their impending demise are Musk, Zuckerberg, Altman, Thiel, and the various bad actors in the AI-EV-military-industrial complex.

Related: While The Xylom is orders of magnitude smaller than Rest of World, our 2025 readership increased 48% over 2024. We're projected to see another 48% jump this year. I wonder if it's just a function of us not having saturated our audience, or if we figured out something that others haven't

On the one hand, American media has become more cowardly, insular, and jingoistic since the writing was on the wall that Trump would return to the White House. Visual, investigative, and international news are usually the first three to get the editorial and funding axe (don't ask how I know)

On the other hand, in my experience, Rest of World has been one of the more tedious news outlets to republish with. I don't think they have figured out a sustainable model other than "Sophie will bail us out", and relying on readership figures to make decisions in this AI age is frankly misguided.

Having read the lesbian bar story in full, my takeaway is that nobody has figured out a sustainable model to keep a queer or lesbian bar afloat at Greenfield, Massachusetts (mask or no mask), which is very unfortunate.

And now there are no masked lesbian bars in the Pioneer Valley.

Okay gang, let’s do this. It’s time for bluesky to put on the best talent show this town has ever seen and save the non-firebombed covid-conscious lesbian bar.

NEW: DSA's National Political Committee passed two resolutions today aimed at Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman, beginning processes that could result in DSA-LA being forced to rescind its endorsement of her this weekend and/or Raman herself being expelled from DSA by January.

To be even more pragmatic, the most important function of Nithya Raman is to create a massive population boom in Los Angeles so that California stops bleeding congressional seats to Florida, Texas, or Idaho, and the left gets an enraged voter base to primary all the septuagenarians in 2032

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.
