Tried to make my terrain graphics look better from top-down, and it worked out much better than I thought? #gamedev #screenshotsaturday

PAPERHEAD has the CRUNCHIEST and PUNCHIEST Sound Design & Music that I have ever done. I am beyond proud of how the game feels sonically and I truly feel like we cooked something special with this 🤘🤘🤘 IF you haven't already, give PAPERHEAD a play :) #gamedev #sound #music

I was supposed to go through some Next Fest demos and make a thread out of the ones I found interesting. But I only got up to Towers of Babble, because when my wife saw it she commandeered the gaming PC and has been playing since. It’s been 3 days. store.steampowered.com/app/4984400/...

To all the Moonglow Bay players and fans: thank you so much, and we are sorry we couldn't do anything special this 5th anniversary - we are kinda locked out of our own game, and it has been gutting me for a while...

That wasn’t anyone at Valve. It was an improvement to Apple Mail. Also in the 27 OSes: compatibility with Bluesky’s codes.

Whoever at @valvesoftware.com added support for autofilling Steam Guard codes from macOS/iOS Mail: thank you! … now could we also get standard 2FA instead of this email and dedicated app stuff? Or passkeys?

project update on generation and simulation in the game i'm working on, tentatively titled [the coiled sun], and the new save system. a short thread:

Scrolled through roughly 1000 games in the Steam Next Fest “trending upcoming” list. I estimate 10–25% of them use at least partially AI-generated capsule art. Several interesting games I’m confident are AI free were far, far, far down the list. One was roughly the 1000th.

Okay, now the Next Fest page is set to Personalized by default, it's giving me some REAL sicko stuff (positive, laudatory even), like... RUIN: 35th ANNIVERSARY DEFINITIVE EDITION A remaster of a game that never existed.

store.steampowered.comRUIN: 35th Anniversary - Definitive Edition on SteamRUIN is a Point-&-Click Adventure set in a cyber-fantasy world of kingdoms and ancient relics. Journey through this mysterious land, behold its wonders, and ponder 35 years of mysteries.

If something's shoved right against the mirror, a bit of geometry from the "reflection world" might poke through. I discovered this by making the debug penguin crouch in front of the mirror. #GodotEngine #gamedev #indiedev

Been working on my game's landing page for a while. Hand pixeling everything takes time but its coming together! #pixelart #godot4 #indiegamedev

Pretty sure my gamedev-related posts here have started getting replies from accounts run by AI chatbots, made to promote a single game.

I guess I’ll start hitting “Hide reply for everyone” at the slightest suspicion, and also report for spam if it’s obvious enough.

Anyway, I guess randomly replying to someone with a compliment and either a question or a cheer is now a bot tell. Fucking heinous.

I usually check out as many games as possible in Next Fest, but the tidal wave of AI trash has beaten me Non-AI indie devs please post your games below and I'll check em out instead Also @steampowered.com PLEASE add an option to filter out AI games in searches. It's killing discoverability #gaming

It’s wild how much you can learn by sitting down once a month to play a little bit of music. No lessons, structure, theory or even goals. Just playing. I don’t know what process occurs during those month-long breaks, but after each one I find my hands suddenly know something new.

What I think is important is to continue caring about the things you love despite anything. The storm will pass. The chaff will be blown away. Good work will continue standing.

So in design there’s this concept called a Modular Scale. Basically simple procedural generation for font-sizes and other measures: ratio^x. Using the golden ratio with it produces a nice set of sizes. It’s my favourite, but grows too quickly: not enough small sizes.

Related: TIL the CSS pow() function is widely available, so using modular scales is simpler: font-size: calc(1rem * pow(var(--ratio), 2)); Once round() becomes widely available it’ll also be simpler to pick a matching line-height: line-height: round(up, 1.25em, 0.25rlh);

Finally had time to try it, the new pixel art models are fantastic (and yes I bawled my eyes out within a few minutes, as always with #ToTheMoon) Can't wait for the full game ❤️

Cécile Muller@wildpeaks.fr

The demo of the last To The Moon is out 🚀 store.steampowered.com/app/2664600/... I'll have to try it tonight as it's one of the very few games I'm looking forward to, Kan Gao is a treasure

todays protip: if the cosmos is telling you your design/code/idea sucks, stop and listen. often i find that some chunk of code will throwup more than its fair share of bugs, or not integrate well, or not live up to its hype/cost/time. rather than resent it increasingly over time, take it as a sign
