With `alpha()` we now have three ways to lower the opacity of a color in CSS. The nice thing with alpha (besides being super easy and probably easier to read) is that it keeps the colour space the same. I took a look at it here if you want more info on it: youtu.be/Pfj9OmvqU0Q

✍️ Just published a new post about my most-anticipated CSS proposals from Interop 2027! If you’re not familiar, the Interop project is a collaboration between browsers to pick shared focus areas. There’s *so much* good stuff this year, it was hard to pick just 10!

You can learn more about my choices in my new post. I tried to include lots of demos and examples, so you can get a sense of how they work. And much of this stuff is already in at least 1 browser, so you can start using it today as a progressive enhancement! www.joshwcomeau.com/css/interop-...

For example, there’s a proposal for CSS Functions, which is one of the coolest ideas I’ve seen in a long time. Gradients are just one of a zillion practical use cases I can think of:

This is one of the most beautiful blog posts I have ever seen. 😮

My thoughts on the current state of AI driven software development, why I'm no longer concerned about a runaway intelligence explosion, and what I think is a far worse outcome we could be walking into maevyn.codes/decoherence

Well this is cool! Wagon By Wagon, an experimental art project where people draw their own wagons in an ever-expanding train. It typically costs a small fee (<$1) to add a wagon, but the creator gave me a code that makes it free, for the first 20 who use it: WBWJOSHCO8V5P wagonbywagon.com

(In case it's not obvious: I'm not being paid to promote this. The creator just emailed me to let me know about it, and I thought it was neat!)

Remember Internet Explorer’s “Page Transitions”? Well, they’re back, thanks to the View Transition API! → Blog post: brm.us/page-transit... → Demo site: page-transitions.style The project leverages IE’s meta tags so browser support is not limited to Modern Browsers™ but also includes IE 5.5–8.0 😆

This is a *fantastic* movie. It's also the sort of thing where the less you know going in, the better.

📝 New CSS Article! Learn how I used Scroll-Driven Animations and other modern features to extract various information from a CSS grid. blog.master.dev/extracting-g... Another article to show that CSS is more than a simple set of properties/values.

blog.master.devExtracting Grid Information Using CSSIt's an interesting and potentially useful trick to have an element know where it is on a grid. That's tricky enough when the items are in one row/column, but what about when they span?
CSS by T. Afif@css-only.dev

Getting information from a simple grid is good, but what about a complex one where the items are randomly placed? 👀 css-tip.com/grid-informa... A fancy demo powered by Scroll-Driven Animations and more! All the values are calculated and displayed using only CSS.

We should have been writing articles and having fun with CSS, but instead... We can't do much against big corporations (except wait), so let's give Geoff some support. Share (or try) his HTML/CSS course: thebasics.dev 100% human-made by the one who edited 86945 CSS articles!

Newsletter issue is live! It's basically a mini blog post that explores two awesome up-and-coming CSS properties. ✨ I also decided on a whim to include a coupon code for my courses in there. 😄

✨ I'll be sending a special edition of my newsletter tomorrow that explores what we can do with the new `corner-shape` and `browser-shape` CSS properties. I’ve been doing a lot of experimentation this summer and I’ve discovered some pretty cool stuff. 😄 You can sign up here:
