Firefox 159 has landed! This is a pretty big one for web dev stuff:
🎉 CSS scroll-driven animations, both scroll() and view().
🎉 Scoped custom element registries.
🎉 Streaming sanitization of HTML.
And more! developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/M...

@kevinpowell.co your videos have inspired a whole generation of CSS creators, myself included. So thank you!
New workflows may let us iterate faster, but taste is trained by doing. Tools can’t do the caring for us 🤖
I wish I'd realized when recording this that it would come out on the 10-year anniversary of my channel, but even if I didn't mention it, I guess it's still pretty fitting 😅
(plus it was posted to my second channel anyway, lol)
If anyone is looking to make a static site given recent events, then you should check out Web Origami.

✍️ Just published a new post about my most-anticipated CSS proposals from Interop 2027!
If you’re not familiar, the Interop project is a collaboration between browsers to pick shared focus areas. There’s *so much* good stuff this year, it was hard to pick just 10!
If you ever struggled with understanding if your CSS performance issues are coming from style calculation or from layout, LoAF's styleDuration and layoutDuration is shipping in Chromium 158 to help with that groups.google.com/a/chromium.o...
More range sliders with fancy shapes? Let's go! This time with a tooltip showing the value.
curve, wave, zig-zag, arc ... Which one do you prefer?
css-tip.com/shaped-range...
0% JavaScript and 100% CSS magic (border-shape, shape(), scroll-driven animations, and more!)
Who said range sliders need to be straight and boring?! Hey CSS, distort the line! 〰️
css-tip.com/wiggly-range...
Another funny demo powered by border-shape, scroll-driven animations, and more
The HTML code? Only an input element (no extra code is needed)
glyphcss 0.3 is out: diagrams and charts drawn entirely in text
Flowcharts, trend lines, sequence, mind maps, git graphs, sankeys, donuts and more, rendered into monospace cells for the web, terminals and chat
Try it glyphcss.com
If you've wondered why I haven't written a new blog post in about a month. It's because of this. 👇
typography.damato.design
I've written a few posts about web typography in the past year, and even a talk in January. I've decided all of it probably needs a single place. So, this is the place.
We have a new way to render clouds in 3D CSS!
Thousands of soft gas and dust particles, turned to face you as you orbit
Live on the Homunculus Nebula, blown out by Eta Carinae in the 1840s, with three datasets: the gas cloud, its outer shell model and how the gas moves
css.earth/homunculus-nebula
Starting my week on #TRAPPIST-1, a planetary system with seven Earth-sized worlds (around 40 light-years away). I added the habitable zone and stellar wind datasets, and I'm working on surface maps.
css.earth/trappist-1-s... 👽
I've been working towards a CSS-only sphere for years, and now I want to set it free (in #Saturn form 🪐)
I added toggles so you can see what each layer contributes to the scene.
Try it: codepen.io/alowpoly/pen...
Well ackshually 🤓🙋... Saturn is an oblate spheroid, like a squished ball. It spins so fast that it bulges at the equator!
Building css.earth is blowing my own mind.
css.earth is a free and open source astrovisualization platform for the web 🪐
The repo is a FITS-to-HTML pipeline: we take a ton of open space data, and turn it into one scene per celestial body. There are 4,547 URLs so far, covering galaxies, nebulae, stars, planets, moons, asteroids, and Pluto.
The intense research for this project has resulted in two new rendering paths for PolyCSS:
* Volumetric 3D images (by @ledeluge.me)
* Billboarded 3D dots (by @lowpoly.gg)
Feedback is welcome! Especially from humans of the Earth 💚
📝 New CSS Article!
With Scroll-Driven Animations, you can transfer a value from one element to another anywhere on the page. I am using it to implement children-count().
Strange? Confusing? What the heck am I talking about?!

My optimistic take is that human voices are becoming more important than ever, and that will eventually lead to more blogs and weirder personal websites 💚
i challenge you to post one optimistic take or belief today on bluesky
this needn’t be toxic positivity, just good ol’ run of the mill optimism/hope in the face of a torrential downpour of doom
I was recently introduced to straw.page, a maximalist Geocities-inspired drag-and-drop website builder.
Apparently it's most popular with Gen Z, and it makes me so glad to know this sort of spirit lives on. 😄
🧵 A few examples in-thread.
1) Place a little cutie on the border of parent element with `offset-path: border-box;`
2) Animate to random positions like `offset-distance: random(0%, 100%);`
3) Swoon

px in CSS ≠ a pixel on a display.
This is something that is obvious when you think about it at all, but many people seem to gloss over it. I was explaining it to someone and figured I'd be best to jot it down: vale.rocks/micros/20260...
✍️ New Article: Detect when elements overlap with CSS
Can CSS tell when two elements overlap? At first, I thought this was not possible, but it turned out it can be done with scroll-driven animations and anchor positioning.

New blog post: Esoteric HTML - ismap vs CSS
https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2026/09/esoteric-html-ismap-vs-css/
The HTML specification is old and, while there is beauty in longevity, there's an inevitable build-up of boondoggles and baggage. Some elements like <marquee> have sadly been consigned to …
