Work consisted of a lot of smaller tasks this week. I had World Series fever as my Rays punched their ticket to the Fall Classic on Monday. And I read a lot of good articles this week.
In the excitement of the World Series, I decided to write about why I am a Rays fan. In the midst of writing, something dawned on me that I had not necessarily thought about before. And that insight answered the statement and gave me fresh appreciation. jeffbridgforth.com/why-i-am-roo...
Wow!! I didn't expect this development. I am excited that @geoffgraham.me has the keys and look forward to the future of CSS Tricks.
I'm so gosh-darned excited! css-tricks.com/css-tricks-h...
We first started attending Rays games in 2009. Soon the Rays became my second team, our family's team.

I recently became aware of the Memory Project (memoryproject.online) which documents a lot of stories of those who fled Hungary after the revolution. I have had the privilege of meeting several Hungarians and getting to hear their stories.
I am rereading James Michener's, The Bridge at Andau, to observe the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian revolution.
My youth soccer coach fled Hungary. I am not sure if it was after the revolution. I remember going to a soccer exhibition where the KC Comets played the Soviets. I could tell Joe had deep feelings against the Soviets based on his reactions during the game.

I continued working on Wonder of the Word templates and created some new pages for the True Woman '27 event. I wrote a couple of articles and enjoyed playing post-season baseball in MLB The Show 23.
The story of how I got interested in computers and later learned to build webpages as a hobby which eventually led to a career.
I decided to follow the trend of other developers and give my input into Interop 2027 rankings and then share my results. The Firefox team just added some great share features to help you write your own post.
I reworked the dark mode color scheme for a section of the Revive Our Hearts site to apply things I gained from an article I read two weeks ago. I enjoyed postseason baseball playing MLB The Show '23 with the Orioles.
Earlier in the year, I started a list to try to trace the impact that different books have had on my personal and professional life.
Last night, my other adopted team, the Rays, swept the Yankees in the ALDS. I'm hoping that this is the Rays year and they are able to bring the World Series trophy to Florida.
I love this time of the year and playoff baseball. Forty six years ago today, I got pulled out of class. My mom was in the hallway and told me that we had tickets waiting at Royals Stadium for Game 1 of the ALCS. The Royals won that day and went on to win the ALCS over the Yankees.
@artlung.com Thanks for mentioning Mememto Mori. I created an archive a couple of weeks ago and then updated it today. I figured out what parts of the output I needed to copy over to my version. I had updated the HTML and CSS for my version. Easy to update. Thanks again.
Lots of project launches last week. At the end of the week, my son and daughter traveled to Chattanooga and the whole family went to eastern Tennessee to see my youngest perform Saturday night.
I was inspired by James' recent reflection on sticker memories to write a few of my own.
@kevinpowell.co Do you have a demo online of your GSAP racing landing page? I did not see a link in your latest video or the longer one you did a couple of months ago. I would to love to look it over outside of the videos. So many creative things going on.
I made good progress last week on several projects that will launch at the end of the week. I tried out Memento Mori as a way to say a stand alone archive of my Instagram photos.
@simplebits.com Have you seen this print by Hatch Show Print? shop.hatchshowprint.com/products/hat... I like the subtle humor of this one.
I would love to build the LEGO Sagrada Família set. I visited the church in 2024 and it is one of my favorite pieces of architecture. (I got my bachelor degree in architecture.)
@simplebits.com Your links to Fonts and Goods are not working currently. Look like they are 404ing.
I attended Front End Study Hall on Thursday. Continued work on three major projects. I was bummed to hear that CSS Tricks has gone quiet for a second time in four years.

My computer welcomed me this morning with this picture on my desktop. It brings back a lot of good memories of walking from my fraternity house on the edge of campus to Marvin Hall early in the morning.
I had most of this one written on Monday. Slower week but I found some things to talk about. Enjoyed seeing my youngest again as we traveled to east TN on Saturday.
@artlung.com I have been using MJML recently. We have it baked into our templates on our CMS.

I hadn't posted over on the second channel in a while now, but I felt that it was important to talk about what's going on with @digitalocean.com and @css-tricks.bsky.social as the site has now gone quiet for a second time. youtu.be/9_upvxCAUzM
This is a great introduction to sibling-count() and sibling-index() by @kevinpowell.co. It's got me excited about using it. youtu.be/6-cg8Z74MPI
I did a search this morning for a question I had about hero elements and <main> content. One of the first search results (after AI) was an article I wrote a little bit over a year ago. jeffbridgforth.com/hero-and-sem... The problem today is exact one I was wrestling with then. #HTMLisHard
This is interesting. I don't like that it involves adding another div but it is a nice trade-off for being able to animate and transition the grid cell content.
Back in June I shared a demo of a grid that smoothly animates on resize without JS or View Transitions. I finally sat down to write up how it works: CSS Anchor Positioning + scoped anchors + regular CSS transitions. → brm.us/animated-grid
Revive Our Hearts celebrated 25 years. I enjoyed the rich discussion at Front End Study Hall. My wife and I took a weekend roadtrip to see our youngest.
Happy birthday @sturobson.com Hope you are enjoying your day. Cheers!
I had a more normal work week after a crazy month of jury duty and moving two of our kids. But it was also a difficult week as I miss having our kids at home.
The highlight of the week was a roadtrip to Eastern Tennessee to move my youngest into her dorm. We also visited the Tennessee Aquarium.
I have already started using flex-wrap: balance. I am looking forward to playing with flex-line-count and see what problems it could solve for me.
✍️ New Article: Balancing flex items with flex-wrap: balance I explored flex-wrap: balance and flex-line-count and really enjoyed using them. I even made a masonry layout by mixing flex-line-count, round, clamp, and container queries units! 😀 ishadeed.com/article/flex...
