Sometimes some people say stuff about parenting and I wanna go "yeah, but you don't have kids, give person X some slack". But I think anyone who was ever a ten year old is qualified to comment on whether its bad if a parent can't say three nice things about their child without coaching from AI.

"Men are an embarrassing cringe gender" is objectively correct.

Brazil going the way of South Korea. Basically around the world women are desperately trying to keep power out of the hands of incredibly stupid fascistic grifters while men keep trying to hand it over. Men are an embarrassing cringe gender.

AOC is correct

AOC: "As AI begins to encroach in our society, their goal is to take your cognition away from you. AI's goal is to take your thoughts away from you, your ability to think away from you, so that you become dependent on a machine ... reading books is active resistance"

Props to the ad agency: they nailed the "white person who plagiarises and steals credit using LLMs" look with 100% accuracy

Like I get that art is beautiful magic hashtag cottagecore dark academia but also the reason an AI can't do it is because it's dumb as shit and not sentient.

I feel like when people talk about the superiority of man made art over AI slop they tend to focus too much on the mystic of it and not enough on the fact that for a lot of artists the process is made up of a long series of complex and meaningful deecisions that a robot sucks at making.

Qsy@qsy.bsky.social

Talking about how historical inspirations for fictional settings 🧵 I was shared an artist's post about a design they created claiming to be inspired by a specific bit of history, that ended up not at all showing through in the final picture. This is not uncommon.

Pro tip for the people sharing anti-AI slop posts that are themselves AI generated: you are part of the problem

Just saw Ólafur Arnalds "Falling Apart Together" tour and it's been a breathtakingly beautiful concert. If you have any chance to see it, it's super worth it.

To the extent Twitter is "succeeding" it isn't anything intrinsic to the platform. It's that the fascistic tech bros that remain want to stay on there so they can be racist while talking about AI. If you join them then you legitimize them and the platform. You are working for Elon to make him money.

It isn't hard to understand. Don't do work to make money for a guy who wants to have you killed. This is not an unreasonable baseline. Are you non-white? Are you non-Christian? Are you a journalist? Are you a liberal? Are you not fash? Do you live outside the "west"? Then Elon wants you *dead*.

"Releasing over 700 files at once is not a demonstration of scholarship, but a demonstration of power. We urge mathematicians to discontinue their work with OpenAI and to return to a vision of science that centers human understanding." www.ahmath.org/statements

"Nerds would rather be slavers than admit that their stochastic token predictor is not intelligent" reveals way more about nerds and their views on other human beings than it says about Chatbots.

"this downright black-and-white refusal of generative AI is childish" Okay, now replace"AI" with child labor and say that again. Because a lot of the moral arguments against genAI are similarly structured than those against child labor.

There's a form of grief about the state of the climate, the species we killed with out actions, the damage we've done to the ecosystem. Grief about not what we "lost" but what we destroyed (often through negligence).

I do feel a very similar kind of grief when I think about "AI" and what its usage does to our cultural expression and our collaborative infrastructures.

Right so the war against social science. Yes it’s ideological. It’s also a termination letter from the state saying it no longer needs legitimation. that’s the public crisis — ask yourself why it doesn’t need legitimacy.

Some tech assholes in Silicon Valley read “Don’t Create the Torment Nexus” as an instruction manual, but there are variations: “My Torment Nexus is Open Source and Any Humanities People Complaining Are Just Too Lazy to Learn to Code so They Can Be Smart Like Me and Take Part in This Conversation”

Claims of increased productivity rest on the affected people and organizations actually being able to measure productivity which - aside from traditional manufacturing processes - is often very hard to do if not borderline impossible.

If "AI" were a mere tool and not a political narrative you wouldn't need to headline "X used AI to do Y" all the time. Anything anyone does while "AI" is involved must reify "AI"'s power and relevance. Because it's not "just a tool", it's a project of disenfranchisement some willingly embrace.

Die bürgerliche "Mitte" steht am Ende eben doch den Konservativen näher als progressiver Politik.

Anybody who is constantly trying to find a middle ground between personal benefit on the one hand and horrendous ethical and environmental violations on the other while a financial crisis bubbles in the background, is a fence sitter at best. Calling them critical is a ridiculous statement

tante reposted

“AI” boosters calling themselves “AI critics” or claiming to be critical of the technology seems to be such a common thing No doubt they believe it themselves So many people worried about the tech accept these “AI”promotions unexamined and assume anything more critical is unfounded extremism

This looks fucked up (AND IT IS!). But those kinds of Effective Altruist people are dominating the AI policy and lobbying space.

That is how the "a stochastic token generator might KILL US ALL" people think. Think about how far removed from a belief in human dignity and basically the history of moral philosophy, religion etc. you have to be to make that kind of argument.

It's important to remember that this kind of performative dehumanization is a show of loyalty. @tante.cc wrote about this in relation to the press, but the deeper reason AI people keep saying the most shameful anti-life shit is to show that they're willing to burn their family for the ideology.
