It's a filter: if you're willing to throw your wife and infant child under the bus like this, in public, you can be trusted to endorse and execute other, less public kinds of shameful behavior. It's the same reason totalitarians like Trump insist that you call it "Lake America."

And it has the added benefit of leaving you a divorced and otherwise isolated person. The same logic animates all the horrific right-wing "dating advice"; lonely, horny, angry men are the ideal outcome.
