If closing surely the least expensive radio channel the BBC has (run by a tiny number of people, broadcasting the work of mainly dead people), bothers you, then why not sign this petition you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/sa...
Not sure how much money closing Radio 4 extra will save. I am happy to forgo my £22 a year from repeat fees if that helps.

Almost done with this iOS / macOs app which lets me record voice notes from my phone/watch/CarPlay and puts them and their transcripts on my mac. Next up: Using jev and/or claude to sensibly turn them into files in my Obsidian inbox.
I’ve just thrown together a little tool to help Claude write entries to my @obsidian.md day note. Wrote some notes on it here: danny.is/notes/claude...
@stephango.com I would dearly love a way to do this kinda thing with less complexity. (See also: sandboxed agents interacting with my vault etc etc) 🙏

The BBC's ability for self immolation is extraordinary. How can a new Midlands BBC centre be without a drama and broadcasting studio, the plans for which have now been scrapped? Undermining the audio medium (which they've been nibbling away for years). 1/2 www.change.org/p/keep-the-a...

Extraordinary undercover reporting in Reform by ITV, uncovering what many of its councillors and activists are really like, when they think the cameras are off. A racist party which attracts racist people. www.itv.com/news/2026-10...

I do wish more people would browse the Wikipedia articles of medieval European rulers. So many of them have sentences like “Charles the Stupid, Duke of Flanders, was campaigning in Burgundy when he contracted dysentery after eating apples. He died a week later at age 36.”

Context: I desperately want to press a big "Record" button on either my Apple Watch or CarPlay and end up with the audio file on my mac WITHOUT ANY FRICTION. There are two things on the app store which do this but both are janky af. So: 1. Voice Memos should do this 2. Apple should let me make this
How on earth is Apple Voice Memos not available in CarPlay? Does Apple really thing it's safer for folks to dictate into their phone that to press a big "New Voice Note" button in CarPlay and just talk at the car?

ChatGPT is adding the signatures of real New Yorker cartoonists to its AI-generated images. So far, I've found the signatures of more than 15 contributors. "It’s slop, and unlike the other slop that I’ve encountered, this is slop that’s pretending to be me." www.niemanlab.org/2026/10/chat...

Product design matters folks
This tweet is an example of why product management matters even more in a world where AI coding tools make it easy to ship more features and apps. What to ship and why is now more important than if you can build it, since with enough tokens you can build almost anything you want.

feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does
I really wasn’t trying to start a fight with Prof. Bender but now that she has created a long thread subtweeting me and her disciples are all yelling at me, let me just say that this is the crux right here. She seems to respond as though I am describing something a priori impossible.
