this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive. when you're inside the bubble, you think everybody else is. but everybody isn't.

Politicians can win elections by banning AI. @cnbc.com @carlquintanilla.bsky.social @aoc.bsky.social
We won’t know if the calculator is right or wrong if we don’t know how to double-check it. And if our calculator battery dies, we’re left stranded. So it is with AI, you can't cognitively offload if you never onloaded in the first place. www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/psyc...
@jasoncollette.bsky.social Bro, if you're not speaking there next year, we riot.
The movement didn't succeed, and has since been cast in a derogatory light by the capital class that they sought to fight against. There is a great book by @bcmerchant.bsky.social called Blood in the Machine that I can't recommend enough.
Technology ought to be a helping hand, a way to make service better, communication clearer, and the work more meaningful, not a force that washes out the human warmth that gives a company its true character. open.substack.com/pub/growingu...
“data center electricity usage climbed from 58 TWh in 2014 to 176 TWh in 2023 and estimates an increase between 325 to 580 TWh by 2028.” Source: www.energy.gov/articles/doe...
They don't hate AI. I bet they use it constantly. What they hate us the climate being destroyed for AI. They hate that there may not be jobs for them, the Fear of the world changing too fast, and beyond society's capacity to control the course of this change. They hate feeling out of Control. Not AI
The audience is full of people who will not in any way benefit from AI, and will instead find it harder to find jobs, and the jobs they do find will pay less, or suck in other ways, and they will watch the rich get even richer. It's the system we must fix, and we all need to get to work fixing it.

Too late. AI has already been proven too effective. It doesn't matter what the detractors say. We have but once choice, and that is to do as humans always have: adapt. bsky.app/profile/nonn...
271 vulnerabilities found and fixed in Firefox alone. Anthropic previously reported finding 0-day vulnerabilities in every browser and operating system they set Mythos on, in only a few weeks. If we do not produce these models our adversaries will. We can't put the genie back in the bottle.
They're not data centers. They're Spy Centers. They enable greasy fuckwit billionaires to spy on you constantly. The goal is to con you out of everything you need: money, freedom, joy, democracy, privacy, water, choices, life. substack.com/@alisavaldes...
GLORIA CAULFIELD VICE PRESIDENT OF STRATEGIC ALLIANCES, TAVISTOCK DEVELOPMENT COMPANY www.ucf.edu/wp-content/b... Page 9 1/2
Here's a repo of actual microfiche headlines, this is for radio, it's pretty entertaining, you can follow the links / breadcrumbs and look at all kinds of history on disruptive tech. Enjoy! pessimistsarchive.org/list/radio
There's an AI-generated summary of a video I put up on Youtube with my name attached *and* written down in the subtitles I supplied -- and the AI still spells all of my name not only wrong, but wrong in a way I've never seen before. And there's this: bsky.app/profile/achr...
Just found it on YouTube (haven’t watched the whole speech yet) www.youtube.com/live/zwYkHS8...
