I feel like the entire web dev industry has been collectively holding its breath since CSS-Tricks was purchased 4 years ago, now it feels like we can breathe again.

"CSS-Tricks is an independent site once again!" This is so great! And a glimpse of hope in these times. All the best for you @geoffgraham.me

CSS-Tricks has a new owner! Yes, I've got the keys to the castle, so to speak. And, even after 12 years of working on the site, I'll admit I'm a little overwhelmed and nervous about that. https://css-tricks.com/css-tricks-has-a-new-owner/

This rules. CSS Tricks was instrumental in my early growth as a developer and I'm so happy to see it publishing again

Back in the earlies, CSS lovers invented new stuff, shared eagerly, and challenged each other to improve on it. There was real excitement when someone launched a site. Others would dig into the code to learn and make suggestions. We celebrated each others work. I miss that. I really miss that.

A career ago when I was a technical writer, the Society of Technical Communicators had their own in-house magazine. For a while the CSS Zen Garden and CSS Tricks were my front-end journals of a sort. Not sure that Substacks and LinkedIn posts hit the same.

Ever since we got position: sticky I liked playing around with scroll-based storytelling. Scroll-driven animations unlocked a lot more, but as @utilitybend.com explains, scroll-triggered animations are that last missing piece. Includes great examples of fun things we can do now.

AI is shit at CSS. Beyond shit.

Kevin Powell@kevinpowell.co

I think the thing the "but AI can one-shot it bro" commenters on these videos don't get, is while I am showing how to do something with CSS, it goes a little beyond that. I'm exploring what's possible these days, and often looking at how we can make things that aren't so straight-forward.

Excited to see we'll eventually have responsive iframes. It's a one-liner in CSS with `frame-sizing: content-height;` but it does require a meta tag to opt-in from the embedded doc as well. Currenly only behind a flag in Chrome, but will be nice to have once it starts landing.

Oh very nice! CSS Grid Lanes (aka Masonry) is enabled in Firefox Nightly (159) 😍 Wonder if this will "ride the trains" to the stable channel. Anyone know?

Firefox is the best browser today IMO 🤘

Firefox 157 drops today, bringing back Compact Mode, this time with its own dedicated setting. During early testing many of you shared that you didn’t want to lose density in the new design. That feedback directly impacted this release.
