developers who consciously and deliberately give the middle finger to slop will always be that girl 💅🏻 it was so neat to go into every gallery and find every monitor+radio with cool tunes and look at all the graffiti. alan wake 2 and control resonant are clear celebrations of the joys of creation.

I wanted to not write this! I'd rather talk about the cool games that are coming out every day. Yes, Sweeney has half a point. But for everything correct he says about Valve's near-monopoly, he does two headass things that only drive people further towards Valve. Billionaire yells at monolith.

Can't even begin to describe how much this rules.

A lesser studio wouldve just slapped some slop all over it and been done. One of the many reasons I love Remedy.

Our shared struggles should be bringing us together to fight for these resources, and to fight for real support for survivors *of any gender* TLDR: It shouldn't be men vs women, it should be predators/@busers vs survivors and those who support them.

In the last year, No More Robots has funded + is currently funding a dozen games, and has paid numerous devs to make prototypes happen for free But obviously, getting press is absolutely impossible for us, because only doom and gloom gets clicks

Why isn’t anyone funding video games anymore? aftermath.site/you-are-error-...

I'm convinced that the reason for routine firings in the video games industry is not about improving the balance sheet for investors, rather suppressing wages and by extension the organisation necessary for unions. As a class, studio owners want a precarious labour market to keep wages down.

Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.

It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

NEW: I spoke with current and former EA employees to understand how the latest layoff round played out and the realities of daily life at the U.S. publisher. The short version? EA is controlled by an executive class that "cannot fail, only be failed." Workers, then, will always pay the price.

Fighting to save an IP instead of fighting to save a creative team is how you go from Empire Strikes Back to The Rise of Skywalker. The creativity, design, and intention behind the thing is what matters, not the IP itself.

i don't think anyone should run explicitly on banning online gambling but i do think that a democratic-led government should just quietly take steps to undermine the industry and create an inhospitable regulatory environment

Videogames is the creative field where creatives are least recognised, most of the time their names are hidden away on the finished product. This is obviously deliberate on the industry's part but the audience enables it when they fail to care about the people who make this stuff.

Caitie@ghildirthalen.bsky.social

sorry i need to publicly be a hater for a second but what do you mean the giant 230k+ signature save mass effect petition is only about the IP and not the devs that were laid off

I believe that if your company undergoes layoffs during a set amount of time after a sale or acquisition, there should be some kind of massive financial penalty or forced restitution. You can afford to buy a company, but you can’t afford the staff? Then you can’t afford to buy the company.
