Who’s up for a cozy, gloomy stroll through Tirisfal Glades beneath the pale glow of the full moon? Mind the spiders lurking in the shadows and the undead hounds wandering the misty paths. And tread softly... you wouldn’t want to wake the dead. 🌕

it's clear that blizzard is targeting both classic wow enjoyers & those who have long since quit, asking them to revisit the vanilla world as it used to be--mostly. it's been called a "millennial retirement home" and that's not an unfair assessment unfortunately, they made this game for me

so, if you've been wondering what all the fuss is about, i hope you enjoyed this thread. and if you decide to cave in and re-install the game after a decade plus long break, be sure to /sit with me by the campfire and say hi as we play world of warcraft FOREVER.

leveling felt vanilla, though it's bound to be quicker alongside the 1,000+ quests that have been added to the game. dungeon xp is front-loaded in the quests, & much less lucrative if you run the same dungeon multiple times over. i still made the trek out to deadmines as horde, for the vibes

the "feels familiar, but with a new twist" is a constant through the game. it felt like reconnecting with an old friend, catching up with all the classic stories along with lots of new ones, too.

the legacy points system is also very cool! i have always been a fan of achievements and this is a fun new twist, where you can earn points to spend in its own special "talent tree" offering perks like cheaper items from a vendor, faster rested xp gain, etc

camping is another big win, a brand new feature to wow in forever that allows you to place different items around a central campfire that require different professions to craft and that offer stat boosts--if you just sit around the fire for a minute had some great camp chats!

a con regarding the world has to be the awkwardness in phasing, especially at the gates of any city. you watch players leave a city and disappear it's as if there's an invisible instance portal connecting the city to the outside; it really makes the world feel less like a single persistent place

aesthetically i really like the changes to the UI, i think the coppery tinge to everything makes it feel "classic" but also new, i like that there is a collections tab for any pets or mounts you pick up, i like the way the character sheet looks, just overall a win here in my eyes

i didn't manage to finish their story campaign as some guildies called me away to heal an RFC at level 10 and by the time i was out with all my quests i was high enough level for the barrens, so i stayed on kalimdor something for my future live druid to experience! and speaking of the world,

HOLY SHIT i've explored so little of the world and yet all i want to do is be in it. the changes they made to lighting and atmosphere while keeping the graphics the same is incredible. flying through the barrens and mulgore at dawn is so beautiful!

my honest opinion on the skyborne, since everyone else seems to be giving theirs, is that: i really like them! writing an entirely new playable race into a vanilla reboot was bold. i also think it was a good faction-balancing decision to give horde the ever-popular "pretty" race

i do think that they could have leaned a little harder into the overall art deco inspired aesthetic, their starter gear and the transmog set clash a bit with the copy/pasted highborn/night elf building assets that make up their city

before i get into my experience in the beta can i just yell about how much i love the forsaken paladin down to their introduction in the wow forever cinematic trainer that is a callback to the original forsaken priest in the vanilla trailer cinema

ok so for the beta i decided that i absolutely had to go and experience the brand new skyborne zone, zephras isle. absolutely gorgeous place with big cataclysm vibes for me (but that may just be all of the references to al'akir)

unfortunately i am not surprised any more
