Thinking about this, and while the ins and outs of journalism are (purposefully) obfuscated in some respects, a decades-long propaganda campaign to discredit journalists has done way more damage.

And it's, in many cases, never purposefully malicious. It just sort of leaks into your brain and soon you're running around spouting nonsense. It's like when you think there's controversy around The Odyssey casting only to find out that it's just five people yelling about black and trans people.

i think it would be good for many people, including those who confidently feel this does not apply to them, to check in with their views on journalism and ensure they are reflecting reality and aren't being (unintentionally!) shifted by subtle leakage of certain internet cultures into mainstream

It's happened to me a handful of times, but usually it's "you get and you don't get upset" or you follow-up and ask for another keeping your fingers crossed that PR will get back to you in time.

Are people actually doing this??? I've received plenty of early Xbox codes over the years and I've only ever had to do anything like this once for some weird preview build. Occasionally you get a "tell us your gamertag" but even that's rare and typically only for games with always-on servers.

TL;DR: social is more heavily weighed in search algorithms than ever before. And with AI overviews cannibalizing search and people doing everything to get a citation there, discord trying to hop onto that trend is very unsurprising

I don't care about the ranking. I'm just happy for the 200-song playlist specifically for me.

It's extremely funny that You Can See Everything, a movie that's about the purpose of documentaries as much as it is a documentary, is getting criticized for not being enough of a documentary

STAT@statnews.com

β€œ'You Can See Everything' is a hilarious, thrilling, fascinating, beautiful piece of art. What it certainly is not is a documentary, and it’s dangerous to pretend that it is,” writes Theranos whistleblower Tyler Shultz. https://bit.ly/4Bk2nDJ

I know this barely helps when nobody has work, but I see people doomspiraling about the video games industry when there are so many cool games to play and there will be many more cool games to come. The industry power players collapsing on themselves can't stop that, can't stop creativity.

I just played a game where penguins can wander around eldritch ruins and squak at suffering humans, and then immediately switched to one where I ran my own bookstore. Biddy Blas exists. That's just my experience over the past week.

Is this that October surprise I've heard so much about

NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

Saw Wicker. It's a must-see movie in the theater, but only if you buy the Group of Horny Middle Aged Women VIP experience.

Every three years, cultural discourse is like "why monster fucking now" based on the tamest shit you've ever seen. Anyway, going to see Wicker this weekend.

The best thing about You Can See Everything is that it's selling out everywhere, which means there are people who are seeing *this* as their first Nathan Fielder project. Imagine not knowing that key piece of info going in!! What is your brain like? Are you okay??

Okay but... do we even next-gen at this point. I know it's the expectation and it gives the platform holders a new product but... why? What would it offer besides maybe some new chips we can't afford and upscaling AI?

We still don't even know what defines *this* generation besides everything that went wrong with the corporations themselves and I guess the attempted reliance on cloud and subscriptions. And that's not hardware, as you might notice.

The whole point of Fortnite crossovers is that they're weird and uncanny and completely out of their original context. Sometimes that's funny. Sometimes it's just weird.

It's pretty amusing that billionaires have this mindset that they deserve the power and money because they "work hard" and then turn around and use AI, the laziest way to work ever created.
