[Thread of threads] I'd forgotten I'd made threads as soon as I got here. It wasn't very practical, but I couldn't help myself. 😅 Until I have a system for grouping them on my profile, like on the other network, I'll gather them here. 🖖 1/ George Lucas and the three-second rule:

[Thread] George Lucas, the three-second rule and the Jedi Starfighter example It's a story that Doug Chiang (responsible for some of the finest Star Wars spaceship designs of the last 25 years) often tells at his conferences. 1/25

"...the outline concluded with this sentence, 'And then some bulls--t happens,' which I thought trivialized the entire process of actually working out what the story would be." Also, in the outline, "They can't blow up the planet because it would cause Xenomorph spores to spread to other planets."

syfy.comJames Cameron's Aliens Originally Included This Weird Xenomorph BackstoryFor decades, fans of the Alien franchise endlessly debated the origin of the Xenomorph scourge until Ridley Scott offered up somewhat hazy answers in his prequel duology.

The Force Unleashed II is far from being my favorite Star Wars game, but this scene is lovingly crazy. Hardspace: Shipbreakers with bare hands, followed by a massive ship maneuver that even Amilyn Holdo would be jealous of. 💪

Project Hail Mary (2026) "The alien sequences worked well enough that Steven Spielberg urged the filmmakers to insert a nod to his own sci-fi classic of first contact: “He was like: ‘You should have the alien do the “Close Encounters” theme,’” director Chris Miller says. “If you say so, Steven.”

[Upcoming book] Star Trek: Lost History (March 2027) by @titanbooks.bsky.social A spiritual successor to the Star Trek: Lost Scenes book, it includes bloopers, cut scenes, production design, scripts, and images that have never been seen before. "This book takes readers on a retrospective..." 🔽

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017): The Intruder, XB982 astroship, art by Patrice Garcia↙️ "I believe that my real victory on this film is to have encouraged Besson to keep the original design of Laureline's ship and her sidekick… It is superb."

What are your favorite moments in all Mass Effect? Me: To meet Sovereign and Vigil. + the Stargazer (Buzz Aldrin). "Our galaxy has billions of stars. Each of those stars could have many worlds. Every world could be home to a different form of life, and every life is a special story of its own."

Let the record show I originally came in with a list of...57 moments I wanted to spotlight and then was bullied into cutting most of them because they want me to lose my sparkle. So be nice to me about the shit that's missing!!!

I know there are people who worked on Mass Effect here (admittedly fewer than on Twitter back then😭), and regardless of what your specific role was—thank you, friends. It was a long time ago, but it left a lasting mark on us. 😎

I could add more, because this really goes well beyond the confines of the video game industry; the entire IT sector and the entertainment industry are affected. I have a list as long as my arm of concept artists, designers, and digital artists who can barely find any work anymore.

And it’s the same in my profession. Clients are becoming increasingly scarce. Entire lines of work are gradually disappearing. Even my own clients are at risk of vanishing in the medium term, as they, too, will be replaced—unless this becomes a political issue. Elections in France are 6 months away👃

Today is the day I learned that Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus One's director, worked on Star Fox's 1993 puppets 🤯 It was the perfect distinctive visual identity for this game, they should have continued.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was released 5 years ago today, and you shouldn't miss this game. It doesn't take place in the MCU, and it's one of my favorite space adventures in video games in recent years. The proof is that I'm still enthusiastically recommending this game five years later.
