I'm not much of a Pokémon person, but my son is & trying to buy him cards at retail prices has been nigh on impossible the last couple of years, and I refuse to pay scalpers for anything. So it warms the cockles of my heart to see so many of them having a full meltdown about the recent set. Enjoy!!

“i called a bunch of local stores and suggested they increase the prices so people will buy the sets elsewhere” why isn’t this quote from an onion article 😭

"We out here doing Pokemon the favor of telling kids to give up on the hobby if they can't afford scalpers prices, and if they have the ingratitude to turn around and sell those kids cards at the regular price anyway."

These nasty underpants gnomes are right that SCALPERS --> ??? --> Pokemon Increases Profits, but they're too stupid to realize that ??? = Pokemon prints more cards so they don't lose a single customer to scalpers' prices.

Pokemon Center kiosks: because what grocery stores were missing was a PVP area.

This is beautiful. I used to collect Pokémon cards, not so much anymore but scalpers were and are the worst. So seeing these nutters crash out? Beautiful. I'd still buy a solo card here and there for my collection though. Bc I'm an Iono fan girl. But screw scalpers prices.

Love to see it Pokemon cards should be about getting the ones you think are cool, or the ones with the beautiful art that makes you stop flipping pages. It should not be about profit margins.

I have a 9 year old and 6 niblings. I once went driving around to 4 stores trying to buy a last minute bday gift but every store was sold out due to these bloodsuckers. The final store was a small game shop that hid a few packs to sell to kids. Warms my heart to see the scalpers suffer.

This is too good I can't believe it. My favourite is the guy saying scalpers do more for Pokémon than anyone because the retail price is too low

"I've been nothing but loyal to this brand for 8 months!!" "I maxed out 3 credit cards... what am I going to tell my wife?" "This is just like communism!!" Inject this into my veins

Obviously my every sympathy is with the clearly honourable fellow talking about NFTs. *suppressed chortle*

As if threatening legal action towards TPC over how they choose to sell their cards wasn't moronic enough, that Reggie numbskull actually signed an NDA before asking if anyone else wanted in on the lawsuit. The idiot got his case thrown out and the whole server nuked because of it.

The audacity of people who try to flip a children's cardgame. Them not realizing how openly theyve admitted to racketeering. Like I hate nintendo, but if they wanted to, they could easily sue for this and drown these scalpers in court fees.

I'm happy they are mad, b/c their whining is apparently bad enough that Best Buy changed their phone service menu to pre-empt questions abt Pokemon cards, so I have to wait even longer on hold. Some of us are trying to get work done and could give a fuck about colorful cardboard, you utter infants.

Also: 'I'm telling stores to sell at $200 so I can make more sells by selling at $175' really makes you look like a stand-up guy and not oozing puss.

It’s always nice when scalpers/flippers get wrecked. Especially when they’re ruining things for kids by buying up all the parts for a kids game.

I think ccgs are an inherently evil product that only exists to create whales, but! This is very funny and I hope that one guy's wife leaves them.

I was in japan in may and the sheer number of reseller stores was insane, unopened packs on sale for 20,000 yen and yet in the actual pokemon store in osaka I could buy 2 packs for 100 yen each. The pokemon store itself had more visible security present than the airport which is a concerning thing

These people line their pockets by making the mundane joys in our lives, toys for children even, impossible to attain. Them making no money is a good start, but they deserve worse than net zero. It may seem a stupid thing to become the joker over, but their attitude is The Problem in this world.

I love how they're trying to spin it like they're legitimate business owners. Like, bro, legitimate stores get their product from the manufacturer. Not stomping on kids at Walmart.

This reminds me of all the guys who tried to haggle with me on choice issues when I worked at a comic shop. “I can’t make a profit at that price!?!” You can’t make a profit? We have overhead because we’re a store. We make a profit or die. I’m sorry you won’t make enough “profit” selling on ebay.

Yeah, I know. It's insane how scalpers have convinced themselves that they're providing a "service" when they're doing the equivalent of blocking a major street and asking residents to pay a toll.

Pokemon company- "Everyone loves our kids game, let's celebrate making it to 30 years with a cool but affordable product with enough supply everyone can get it 🥳☺️🥳" Scalpers- "Why the fuck can't I keep seeling things at 5x the MSRP during the release period? I put 3 mortgages on my house for this!"

I totally think they do like to pretend their that. Reminds me a lot of comics, where theirs a lot of people who collect as a hair-brained investment scheme vs. people who collect because they want to read and story or personally have a copy of something that means something to them

I hope pokemon makes them suffer more. I love how these losers see themselves as business owners when all they’re doing is scalping on eBay. The actual small businesses are the LCS that suffer cause yall keep hoarding product.

To be fair, if you don't count PokémonGo the cards have brought in about twice as much money as the video games. About tied if you do. And all of that is dwarfed by merch sales.

If you cannot afford it you do not deserve it! (talking about kids game cards!) 🤦‍♀️ Fk scalpers.

While this stuff *does* make me very happy to see, I still can't find a box for anything near retail. I'm not going to buckle down and pay much more than MSRP, but I sure do wish scalper bros would give up sooner.

I absolutely love Pokemon, but I’m not into the cards but I’m still upset at what happened to the scene due to scalpers. I’m very happy Nintendo did something.

{Olwen} As a primarily tabletop gamer who cares about Pokemon as basically the only video game I do, and has both past exomemories and current experiences with poverty: FUCK YES. Can we somehow rig it so that it makes scalpers literally catch fire, too?

The second one is the one I'm focused in on: How they've been dilligently "helping Pokemon distribute cards at Fair Market Value rather than MSRP" That's... not what "help" means! That doesn't HELP Pokemon! "We've been helping your product my marking its prices waaaaay up" isn't a thing!

In fact, this whole thing might be a *great* example of the distinction between good middlemen (the various retail stores are quote-unquote good here), and bad middlemen (the people I am currently laughing at). I wonder if there's an interesting economics paper that could be written from this...

In fact, it arguably HURTS Pokemon! Pokemon makes their money by selling to the dealers in the first place! At MSRP they would presumably sell more of them, and thereby BUY more of them from Pokemon! It's not like Pokemon is charging dealers a COMMISSION on sales

Oh, no, it absolutely *does* hurt the Pokemon company. This is an artificially-constrained solution, which can help in terms of publicity, but after that, you end up with the end-users ("the players") being upset and frustrated, which can turn them off long-term.

The ones describing themselves as “small business owners” and “secondary distributors” are really sending me. That and the crypto junkie who’s like “just buy it all up bro”.

I helped set up and open a Target winter 1999 and worked the electronics and toy departments and let me tell you how unprepared we were for the HORDE of moms who descended upon us like locusts such that we started locking them in the glass cases with the high-end cameras and limiting to two packs.

I hope all scalpers get into generational debt as a result of spending all their money trying to resell cards. It would make me forgive Nintendo for all the horrible shit they've done. (Well, not all but it'll be a good start.)

I can’t wait for their “this company made enough of its product to meet demand so it’s hurting our scalping business” class action to get to a courtroom, please let that happen because I really want to read it.

that last one - loyal customer for 8 months - I need people not in the TCG space to understand that 8 months is fuckign nothing for people actually playing a TCG, I've been an on-and-off Magic player since like 2012 and I still think of myself as somewhat new since I wasn't around for OG Mirrodin.

Yeah, I've played magic on and off most of my life and Somewhere in my Parent's house are, I think, some old Ice Age cards. (Worth Jack Shiat because I am pretty sure they are beaten to all hell)

Yeah, I was at my FLGS a while back and saw it had a 6e Wrath of God for $20 - hey! There's one of those in a box in my parents' basement! Mine, uh. Mine would not have been worth twenty bucks.

It's not just that it's been Not That Long — the timing of 8 months ago ; 2026 was a new year, and they clearly found the cards as they looked for a new way to make money.

I’ve been playing competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! since 2008, am the longest tenured player in my friend group by a considerable margin, and I *still* don’t consider myself an OG because I never experienced any of the DM-era formats (and very little of GX as well).

no decent lawyer would take it, so they'd end up with some wills+trusts goon or try to do it themselves with ChatGPT. Hilarity for weeks once the filings become public.

hiya Russell, I know I’m just some rando, but I saw your post and I have a TCGPlayer shop that sells individual Pokemon cards*. I don’t really have many of the ME series, but if your son has some favorite Pokemon I could try to see if I have some in stock *(I get them from estate sales)

Jesus Christ you're scalpers, you serve no purpose other than to scam people, you make nothing and produce no value, you are unnecessary middle men. Amazingly delicious tears, thank you

It never ceases to amaze me how utterly self-important people like this seem to be, like they’re providing a very important service that people love them for, as opposed to everyone who interacts with them seeing them as barely useable for crop fertilizer.

Most likely, retailers were complaining about the extra security measures needed when selling pokemon cards, and possibly even refusing to carry them bc of that

The guy saying he's considering suing is especially hilarious. But the thing is, it's not just scalpers that are causing issues - YouTubers who spend thousands on packs and ooen them on streams also push the prices up and make the boxes harder to get for kids.

That last one is absolutely wild. “I’ve been a loyal customer for 8 MONTHS!” Brother ruined his finances for something he just got into.

Schadenfreude doesn't even begin to describe how fucking happy these posts make me. Fuck these ghouls for ruining children's experiences with one of the best pieces of children's media out there.

Cards are just a way into the overall medium of pokemon. But if you can't afford cards - this whole way is blocked off. And even the cards themselves lead to socialization with others, complex thinking for gameplay and memory training for all the cards. So even w/o the rest of pokemon - cards're cool

We really don't need to pretend like getting into collecting trading cards is this harmless and fun activity for kids. Especially in a time where even kids are getting into the idea of reselling them since it's what's popular online

*realizing their pyramid scheme is failing because customers are sick of having to buy their overinflated stock and complained enough for the company to notice and take action to ensure customers are happy* *wants to sue the company*

This one dude has quite the cojones to compare them to a communist government, while complaining that they can't constrain supply in the market
