Here's a clever thing - Tiny Little Office - a minimalist office suite which encodes documents as URL fragments. The fragments are not sent to the server (unless the URLs are shortened/previewed) and can be shared as links that are rendered locally. Hat tip to @masnick.com tinylittleoffice.com

tinylittleoffice.comTiny Little Office: the link is the documentA tiny office suite where the link is the document. No accounts. Nothing is saved anywhere unless you choose to keep it on this device.

These sentiments are great and all, but the internet in the 90s was full of corporate websites and misinformation. When I was 10, I got way into conspiracy theories thanks to web rings. Web search is the issue now, but you've always had to be discerning online. You can't just "browse"..

Aaron HM@aaronhm.bsky.social

“The internet is a store but it used to be a library” hits me like a slug to the chest

Even back then, you didn't just go online and wander around safely. You found good websites from trusted sources. This isn't downplaying that the web is getting useless websites at an alarming rate, but nobody but a search engine is recommending them. You need new trusted sources.

Once again, Apple releases something that's already been done, acting like it's novel. When you're behind Facebook/Meta, you're not late to the party, party is over and everyone has gone home.

Retailers have lied about shoplifting for years to justify all sorts of miserable practices. I'm not buying this.

If I find out your using one of these to talk to me, I'm coming for you. And it'll be easy since they'll just tell me where you live.

Meta's "Muse" launched with a nasty zero day flaw that gave hackers the ability to spy on Mac users, openly gives root access to people pretending to be Muse agents, and invited strangers over to another guy's house without telling him

I'm out at BSides #Albuquerque today and tomorrow. Come say hi, come see me talk tomorrow at 9:50am about, you guessed it, audio visual.

Come join AV in the AM, a weekly conversation between me and Chris because nobody in AV is brave enough to come hang out on BlueSky.

I feel like we've forgotten the amount of damage a human can do when given escalated privileges on a system they don't understand. If you let a computer engage in that behavior automatically, powered by the stupid things you can find on the internet, it's going to replicate that activity.

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

AI didn’t “go rogue.” People connected a computer system they know can mess with another computer system in unpredictable ways to less advanced computer system and it messed with that computer system in unpredicted ways. As @tressiemcphd.bsky.social argues, don’t lose sight that *people* did that.

Being honest, I've cratered more than one Linux install because I still struggle with permissions, c&p commands I don't fully understand in an attempt to fix an issue. A machine using that kind of process and logic is going to be far more destructive than I can be (because I eventually give up).

I do not understand using LLMs, that are designed to summarize and rephrase, for something that requires transcription. Transcription is secure, mature, and accurate these days. It can run locally in a computer.

So while you're thinking about a super human, super "intelligent" alien being killing you, here's what's really happening. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-08...

I went to a medical tech conference and most exhibitors were LLM AI. I saw a transcribing company I know. They told me they're recording medical terminology in a bunch of accents and languages, because that's what is required for them to serve the medical field. They don't mess around.

This is why any sane person is fighting age verification laws.

I learned about the burning of The Library of Alexandria by Julius Caesar as a kid and, being a book kid, thinking it was one of the most despicable things ever done. I thought about all the things that would never be read and it made me sad. It's happening again now and it's no less despicable.

SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books. Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:

I also do recognize that there is a lot of not so great stuff in print. It's like the groups that restore movies - they long for the day that they won't be restoring a low-effort western. But it doesn't mean it's not worth preserving something in limited supply.

Especially considering what AI promises to bring us, the worst written book or badly made film deserves a place above whatever an LLM is "creating."

To be clear, these companies could absolutely release these books for the public to research from and enjoy. They won't. It's their "competitive advantage" now.

"I've been fascinated and repulsed by this device ever since." is one of the best device reviews. Kind of sums up what happens every time I buy some cheap, strange knock off device from aliexpress.

Yet another way LLMs are making lives worse. You can't just sit down and write with whatever tools you prefer, you have to create a forensic trail and guard against accusations of using AI. Lovely.

This is for your coworker who uses Copilot to summarize their emails.

Dr. Alex Parker @alexparker.bsky.social

Perhaps, for reasons, you would like to make text you write more expensive for any LLM to ingest. May I introduce adversarial tokenmaxxing: alex-parker.github.io/tokenmaxxer/ Increase the tokens needed to represent any text by 3-6 times. It seems that l33t may have been ahead of its time.

They took the brushes away! We demand brushes! This is why the AV industry is dying, fewer brushes. This is what industry consolidate gets you - consolidating brushes out of existence. Follow me for more hot takes on topics I know nothing about. #avsf #avmsp #avtweeps

This is bleak and is probably just the start of these kinds of gifts. Generative AI and crypto are the two latest hyped up tech fads and seem to only serve as tools to steal from everyday folks in more and more creative ways.

Yikes. Bad news for @microsoft.com and especially bad news for claiming FedRAMP means anything.

For years, reviewers said, Microsoft had tried and failed to fully explain how it protects sensitive information in the cloud as it hops from server to server across the digital terrain.

If you played Trust and Safety Tychoon, you know ignoring a legit court order ends your game immediately. I appreciate Proton's response to this. Their email systems are useful to organizers and mutual aid groups that are often subject to harassment and surveillance. Not perfect, but good..

Great work here. While you may be interested in using Gen AI features, having them forced on you by default is now how tech is adopted.
