I do think I’m in the “@“ / @tmosphere camp. I know it suggests email a bit but the technology is atproto for a reason

I somehow can't decipher the meaning behind this subpost, and I feel I am exactly the target audience, what am I missing?

i have no real dog in this race and ain't got skin in the game but the simplicity of the word "atmosphere" i would wager stands the test of time better vs "@tmosphere" you get to do neat type treatment stuff like make the "at" blue and the rest of the word white or black, too

@ is synonymous with online handles now IMO so yeh it makes complete sense, especially if the aim is to increase people other than 38 year olds getting into the atmosphere

I think "@" for short and "atmosphere account" for long? The @ symbol has different names in different languages, so I don't think it works well as a part of a word. In German it's the "Klammeraffe" aka "Monkey climbing a vine", so the meaning of "@tmosphere" may be lost to non-English people

I get this, because the at sign is beautiful. But I feel like atproto deserves a unique icon. @ already means internet access, email, mention, Threads. Plus, atproto can go way beyond mentions! Maybe it's enough to own "at" in the name and then use the icon for differentiation?

That's cute In Portuguese it's called "arroba", because it had a very close relation with the measurement of liquids, way before email, derived from the Arabic "ar-rub"

In Germany most of us call it "at" using the English word, but the "real German" word for that is "Klammeraffe", which translates to "clamping monkey". Don't ask me why...

🥹 thank you Also if it's used in text, not like a branding image, the screen reader might have problems to read it as intended too if you use @ to substitute letters
