πͺπΊ Somehow, I have a Ph.D in Computer Science. Former Game AI researcher. I write Sci-Fi and Weird Fantasy in my spare time. π

The StarterPack has been going around recently, so let's pin an introduction for new followers.
I am Davide, an Italian developer. I got a Ph.D. working on video game AI, and now I work for a Greek company.
But you can also expect posts about writing, books, tabletop RPGs, and Pepito (my cat). β€οΈ
Theres something terribly vulgar about having the whole world at your fingertips and treating it as nothing more than a menu. If you're going to participate in the world, you ought to cultivate some curiosity about the people who make that participation possible.
Matt STFU, sincerely. You can live in *the world* or you can not, and if you're going to eat food and enjoy art/media from other nations/peoples you should at least be passingly familiar with stuff like "Who made this? What's it like where they're from? They doin' alright? If not, why?"
Me, to Claude Code: βI have a friend coming over. Modify Pac-Man to support a horizontal display with two player co-op, where player 2 is Ms. Pac-Man. Make one button be a speed boost. My Mistercade cabinet is at 192.168.1.102β
Claude, two hours later: βThe game is loaded up and ready to playβ
A lot of the discourse around "putting effort" into gamedev code without AI tools reminds me of how people gaslight women into not getting an epidural during childbirth because of "natural/bonding" crap.
Thatβs bullshit. If women could teleport the baby out of their wombs, they absolutely should!

This new Fright Fest game from @chris.pardy.family is really neat.
You pick two besties from your follows, and then your rpg.actor characters go on a turn-based tactics adventure, collecting candy and beating monsters in a town populated with familiar faces from your social graph. π
Go try it! π»

some folks reported not being able to use certain adult-focused platforms (like onlyfans and fansly) β there was an internal miscommunication and these were accidentally added to the list of disallowed domains.
this is now fixed! but you may need to refresh your app to get the update. π
This really isn't good @alexbenzer.com, it creates a two-tier system for who can habe profile links. Just having the link record contain a Boolean or be labelled by a labeller to require a consent interstitial would be better and not disadvantage a population of people who tend to be early adopters
Data are so mean. I burned my brain trying to improve the statistical model of my volleyball forecast app, made a complex, beautiful beast, tested it on previous seasons, and got only a 0.01 log-likelihood increase π«
Nothing beats my dumb original Glicko measurement.

This is very true. Iβve never used an off-the-shelf skill, and I have no interest. All my skills are highly personalized shortcuts to very personal workflows.
I at this point am like 90% convinced that reusable/shareable skills packages are a bad thing for LLM users. The 10% is that it can show you what's possible; the 90% is that people want to be incurious and just slap something in
the only person who can effectively guide your tasks is you
For the ZX Spectrum lovers, there was enough documentation around to also simulate the whole Spectrum PCB with very precise ULA emulation (cross checked with the actual gates implementing it). On my GitHub as usually.
After 10 years, I disabled my lobste.rs account.
I think it's clear I am not a culture fit anymore with whatever it is they have going on there.
I feel more and more like I don't belong in almost any tech community because I believe LLM agents are real, passkeys are good, and fascism is bad.
Maintaining my personal journaling app means I have to fight with a billion edge cases with dates and times.
But I can also spend a billion hours tuning my personal LCARS interface.
(Still not happy with the colors, and there are many glitches, but version 2 is a big improvement over version 1)
This is Pele, my new rendering library for diagrams and charts, compatible with the latest Mermaid syntax.
- 100-500Γ faster than mermaid.js
- 6Γ smaller bundle
- No dependencies
- Easy to theme
- Responsive to device width
- Open source (MIT)

X and Meta interfering in Brazilian elections.
Starlink siding with Russia.
That's just this week.
It's not a word I use lightly, but we are at war with the tech oligarchs whether we like it or not.
Zelenskyy that restrictions on Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone."

We've got some great tools not only for publishing, but for making the writing process easier! Likeβ¦
- multiplayer cursors
- private editor-only comments
- subpages (canvas too!)
What else would be helpful for getting that first draft on the page, editing your posts, or making writing more fun?
Okay we've been working a ton on *publishing tools* in @leaflet.pub; I'd like to hear what *writing tools* you'd find useful!
For example β I love our subpages feature for having e.g. outline/draft side by sideβ¦
Other ideas: word counter or timer blocks? ways to open links inline? what else??

I like that LLMs can now experience the quintessential developer experience: going over a codebase, thinking "This is very badly designed!" and discovering it was written by an older version of themselves.
