Obsidian voice capture is amazing. It's perfect for taking notes while you're walking or riding a bicycle. Works offline, and even when your phone is locked or while multitasking in other apps.
Obsidian 1.15.0 (early access) is now available to Catalyst members - Mermaid diagrams use our new engine, Pele, which renders up to 500 times faster and uses your theme's colors and fonts. - Voice capture on iOS: transcribe voice notes as you speak, even from the Lock Screen. - and lots more!
This is Pele, my new rendering library for diagrams and charts, compatible with the latest Mermaid syntax. - 100-500× faster than mermaid.js - 6× smaller bundle - No dependencies - Easy to theme - Responsive to device width - Open source (MIT) Try it at pele.run
Pele [ˈpɛlɛ] is of course named after the goddess of volcanoes and fire. Many thanks to @kumavis.me for kindly donating the NPM package name!

In pursuit of making Obsidian insanely fast and cohesively designed, I always found the Mermaid library to be too big, too slow, and too hard to theme. Pele will be the new renderer in the next version of Obsidian, but you can start using it now! github.com/obsidianmd/p...
@kumavis.me I was wondering if you're still using the NPM package name pele and if not whether you'd be willing to donate it for a project I am working on? Cheers! it's in the vein of my recent projects knap and defuddle www.npmjs.com/package/knap www.npmjs.com/package/defu...
ludicrous is not fast enough, I am going for teleportation
Obsidian 1.14 is now available with five major improvements: 1. Edit Markdown files outside your vault 2. Preview files using macOS Quick Look when the app is closed 3. Instantly add notes with Quick Capture on iOS 4. Kanban and new grouping options in Bases 5. Highlight colors
I have always loved reading annual reports like Stack Overflow, State of JS, etc, so we created our own survey and will share a public report by the end of the year. As always, Obsidian doesn't collect usage analytics or personal data, and this survey is anonymous.
Obsidian October is back! This year we're launching "State of Obsidian" a survey about how you use Obsidian that we will compile into a public report for the community. Take the survey: 2026.obsidian.md

Knap is named after knapping, the process of shaping stones to form arrowheads, scrapers, and other tools. It also works beautifully with my related project, Defuddle: defuddle.md
Knap is open source. You can use it via CLI or add Knap to your app. Try the playground! knap.md
Over a million people already use Knap directly or indirectly because it started as the templating language I made for Obsidian Web Clipper. Now any app can use it. obsidian.md/clipper
In Obsidian 1.14 the new quick capture launches faster than the iOS animation takes to complete (currently available in early access)
Obsidian 1.14.1 (early access) is now available to Catalyst members for desktop and mobile. - iOS: New Quick Capture widget instantly launches a capture with configurable location and template. - Accessibility: Mobile app now scales with your system's preferred text size.

if you're using Airtable by Bending Spoons™ consider backing up your data in the unlikely event that the API gets nerfed or maybe even (gasp) paywalled
Good news, everyone! We made it easy and free to convert your entire Airtable workspace to durable Markdown files that you own and can use offline. Obsidian Bases supports all your views, filters, and formulas. Your data is yours, take ownership of it.
As with past "paper cuts" releases, Obsidian 1.13 is not super flashy but it includes hundreds of small improvements and bug fixes that make the overall experience a lot smoother.
Obsidian 1.13 is now available to everyone on desktop and mobile! - Added search and keyboard navigation to settings - Images are easier to resize and zoom - iOS share sheet lets you save content from other apps without opening Obsidian - Many bug fixes and performance improvements
This update fixes some particularly thorny and longstanding bugs on iOS and Android when dealing with very large Markdown files. You can now scroll smoothly in Live Preview on iOS and use "Select all" on Android. Should be able to handle massive files without a hitch.
Obsidian 1.13.2 (early access) is now available to Catalyst members for desktop and mobile. Adds image zoom on desktop and resolves bugs: - Fixed "Copy" button on large code blocks - Fixed scroll stuttering in long files on iOS - Fixed "select all" in long files on Android
