Princess donut would be agast. A cocker spaniel?

dave wagner@davewagner.bsky.social

last month, a cat named Rolo survived a medical emergency after receiving a blood transfusion from Gin, a cocker spaniel belonging to the attending veterinarian. Rolo recovered and they're both doing great now. what a hero. what a comrade. workers' solidarity transcending centuries of enmity.

Saw “You can see everything”. It was excellent. I have thoughts but don’t want to spoil it.

I’m guessing Tommy wanted to be the next Charlie. And he got his ass handed to him. 😂

If you had a ticket to Grace Hopper and have not cancelled your plans to go to San Francisco, go to @github.com's LinkedIn right now if you'd like to attend GitHub Universe for free ❤️

So cool to see CNCF projects having wide impact beyond k8s!

Now in public beta, Claude Platform can send OpenTelemetry traces from the Messages API, Claude Managed Agents, and the Claude SDKs to your observability stack.

Remember in Pulp Fiction it was a scandal that the milkshake cost $5. How long until a banana is $10?

The spaces clearly overlap and there is room for confusion. Both k8s related and about hardened runtimes. Picking a pink axolotl is just too confusing.

(Disclosure: I’m an investor in Edera but haven’t talked to them about this. Just putting it out there.)

At airport and 4 dudes just came into the lounge with legit parachute backpacks. Hope I'm not on THAT flight.

Oof. I read the post (long but worth it, trigger warning: sexual violence) and it made me sad and angry. It reflects reality.

@poisonivy.bsky.social catalogued her niche of Bad Silicon Valley Shit exhaustively and i probably should have plugged her work previously but i was trying to find the most clearcut way i could find of showing that this is one BIG thing so it was almost all primary sourcing ivy blog one:

In addition to having optionality of implementation, these systems can be scaled, deployed and secured separately. We want to build a harness system (and larger ecosystem) that brings the power of modern agents to non-developers by shifting from the desktop to the cloud.

It is early days yet! It is rough around the edges. We are just getting started. But we have big plans. Read the blog post, kick the tires and let me know what you think.

You can run Mecatl on the desktop like any other harness. Or you can run the engine on Kubernetes where the agent loop is like any other application. All the ancillary systems (session storage, memories, tools, etc) can be run as separate services.

Working with an AI agent is both fun and enormously frustrating. You know that co-worker that is super literal and pedantic and can do amazing things but also frustrates the fuck out of you? That is the AI agent. And also, if you are that co-worker: I love you. Don't change. Keep being you.

I just spent an hour+ doing a design session with an agent. Ended with "anything else you need decided before you implement?" It said no. Then I tell it to go, check a few minutes later and it looks good. Put the laptop down and have a drink (that may explain a lot). Come back alter and... gah!

🚨 New beyond the noise episode! The legend @h.olysh.it talks (literally) shipping Internet Explorer on physical CDs, co-creating Kubernetes, standing up Google Compute Engine, Google vs. Microsoft culture, and more. Full episode here 👇 bitdrift.io/podcast/beyo...

bitdrift.iobeyond the noise - Joe Beda: K8s, Culture, and Code That Survives ContactJoe Beda, co-creator of Kubernetes and CTO of Stacklok, joins Matt to discuss the cultures behind Microsoft and Google, building Kubernetes, burnout, and the future of AI infrastructure.

Had to tell the agent to do the birthday paradox analysis on a 128-bit value to convince it that overengineering for collisions wasn't worth it. It's like dealing with an over eager intern. 🙄 My job is safe for now!

Wrt geography and war, are winds the new oceans? Interesting it is asymmetric.

I recognize names on this list and I'm pretty it is people looking to repeal the millionaire tax but... fuck those people. Throwing trans kids under the bus is a red line with me. I won't do associate with you.

I tell people all the time that I got lucky with my career and it annoys a lot of them. "No, but you're good," they will say, and I will say, yes, I am good, and also here are all these people who write as well as I do but did not get the same break, so being good isn't the issue, being lucky is.

John Wiswell@wiswell.bsky.social

I am 90% sure my career wouldn't have happened if a couple people hadn't retweeted one of my stories the exact minute they did. You work your hardest, but it's not in your hands. It breaks a lot of people.

The more I work with LLMs and agents, the more I'm gobsmacked by the n^2 nature of how conversations are handled. For every turn of the conversation, you send the entire previous conversation. This means the costs compound the longer the conversation goes on.

I understand how LLMs work and why this is necessary but it is crazy to me that we are sending 100-500k+ of data with each turn. Keeping those conversations short makes everything so much more efficient. But most people aren't aware.
