Workers are facing rising prices. The WA AGO created the Worker Rights Unit to support workers and enforce labor protections. Today we resolved our first case with a group of childcare centers that allegedly required their workers to seek permission before working outside jobs.

State law protects workers’ right to seek employment outside of working hours if they are paid less than twice the minimum wage. As a result of this settlement, workers will receive $250,000 and the company will change its policies.

Thanks also to Nickeia Hunter, Washington Coalition for Police Accountability, and David Makin, a criminal justice researcher at Washington State University and program director for the Washington State Data Exchange for Public Safety (WADEPS), for the thought-provoking conversation.

Our office has repeatedly defended your voting rights and the security of our election system. People often ask how they can help. Here’s what you can do: Vote. Volunteer. Get Involved. We encourage all eligible Washington voters to participate in our democracy.

The states began investigating Character.AI following a 2024 wrongful death lawsuit alleging that its chatbots fostered an emotionally and sexually exploitative relationship with a child, reinforced his suicidal thoughts, and contributed to his death by suicide.

Schools and libraries can’t serve today’s public without reliable internet. The FCC must maintain the E-Rate program, which provides over $3 billion a year to discount the cost of internet for schools and libraries, including more than $40 million for Washington this year.
