We must #resist in every way possible! Everyone should install #ICEBlock to protect themselves and their communities. You can see reported ICE sightings within a 5 mile radius of your current location. It's free, anonymous and could literally save someone's life. apps.apple.com/us/app/icebl...

Sorry, there will not be an Android version because there is no way to provide 100% anonymity. Each person's device ID would have to be stored and that information becomes discoverable should the government issue a subpoena. Only iOS made this possible and completely protects the users.

Technical guy with 32 years of experience here. If you think for one moment that apple is not tracking who is accessing what, you have lost your mind. There are no anonymous apps. Hard stop. For you to publicly say that you believe that an Apple Store application is anonymous is BEYOND laughable.

Google Location Services by default stores significantly more intimate GPS detail, tied to a particular device+user. Meanwhile, Apple stores this location data locally on the device (Significant Locations). If the DOJ wanted to convict someone for obstruction, Google is the obvious first choice.

Oh no, who will think of poor old Google? My point is about the amount of highly sensitive GPS data they store tied to your account and device which they can then use in court to say, “yeah this person obstructed; they were at work when this post was created with an accuracy of within x feet”

Was excited about this app but I feel y'all have revealed youre a bit ignorant about Apple's 'privacy' protections with this post. Yikes.

Is it open source? Perhaps this can develop into a protocol and be open source so that others can develop and distribute apps that can interface with the same network and protocol. I think there are certainly ways this could be done, and probably should be to maximize accessibility

I have an iPhone and if I download and use the app I’ll be doing it under the assumption that it isn’t totally secure/anonymous anyway. It seems like there’s always a way for the government to get data from big tech, or for hackers to steal it. I don’t believe any of the privacy assurances.

Weird how the developers of this app know that only Apple has the protections in place that are required for anonymity, while non-developers are dissing Apple altogether... for having those protections already in place, while Androids are not protected.

In order to deliver a notification to a device you must have the device ID. As we do not collect nor store any user data of any kind to retain 💯 anonymity, this would prove impossible. The security of our users is more important than multi-platform design.

Then there's no point in recommending your app to anyone, because for the people that can use it in the first place there won't be enough others to actually fill out the app with sightings, because people don't have your app.

I'm an immigrant who uses an android, by the way. I'm specifically taking issue with the idea that half of the USA -owning population is not enough "to actually fill out the app with sightings"

Is there any way we could get a version that was usable on say a Surface Pro or other tablet kinds of devices? I'm not worried about myself, but I would like to track activity in my surroundings for other vulnerable people. . . bsky.app/profile/iceb...

F-droid. Ever heard about that? "Only iOS made this [100% anonymity] possible and completely protects the users." If you've ever paid any serious attention, you'd have realized that Tim Cook & Co. will absolutely choose money over its users' privacy. Every. Single. Time.

Why not release on F-Droid or push the APK to GitHub to load with Obtainium? Android is more accessible to lower-income communities, and its marketshare vastly outstrips that of iOS’s in international markets. There are plenty of reasons for the communities at risk here to opt for an Android device.

Apple devices, as we all know, are generally more expensive than Android. The people who most desperately need your service most likely have Android devices. Giving up on them when you could simply develop a web app or distribute using F-Droid is quitting an inch before the finish line.
