hi Bluesky! 🦋 i’ve been chosen as the new head of product here at Bluesky HQ! and i couldn’t be more excited to hack with this incredibly talented team on making this site better for everyone.

since i started coding in my teens, i’ve been obsessed with making social apps and tools that let anyone build their own communities on the open web. no walled gardens, no shady incentives.

we all deserve more of the good parts of social media with less of the bad. that’s why i joined Bluesky. i personally want a better place to hang out and have real conversations online. i think the world does too. we have wind in our sails.

as head of product, my job is simple: listen to you and bring you more of what you want from social. first up… a feature so requested, we lost count of how many times you asked. any guesses??

given yall haven't banned Jesse Siegel yet, i doubt you're keeping accurate metrics on the actual top requests made in good faith by us. god what a depressingly PR-brained formula this is. maybe show some spine and be the first bsky team member that gives a shit about trans rights?

Private profiles. It's a great chance to improve safetay -- and show that you're actually interested in listening to Black people and other marginalized communities. Remember, you only get one chance to make a good first impression!

notably though! > As an added bonus, if you want to use Markdown in your client, you absolutely can. You just need to run the parse step before publishing and turn the results into these facets. no clients afaik currently do this though :(

Personal wish list: 1. Analytics – to track follower numbers and reach for my non-profit institute’s account. Doesn’t have to be fancy, enough for a few lines in the annual report. 2. Edits – to correct typos, not change whole posts. 3. Scheduling – so I can edit posts until scheduled time.

Turn off re-posts on a per account basis. I don't want to turn them off for everyone, as some interesting stuff can come to your attention from them, but other people have a tendency to spam them.

If you can make Bluesky more safer from harassers and stalkers on my end would be amazing. Cause safety is the MOST important of this point. I’m getting off of Bluesky starting today because it’s not 100% safe for me from those harassers and people who are trying to dox me

In particular on my app (Android), when I click a link to read an article and come back to the Bluesky app, bluesky reloads the latest posts and I can't find the one I just found the article link on, so I can't like and repost it. I wanted the app to save my place.

I've been thinking about this more, and perhaps a minimal first step would be: If you have a post or thread open, then when the app reloads, it reloads to that post or thread.

can you guys do post edits? it's already available via PDSls but doesn't reflect in the social-app AppView unless the record is recreated.

Yessss... Is a list with 17 itens sufficient stuff to start? 😅 🫴 bsky.app/profile/mbf.... Be welcome to THE MOST collaborative community below the sky (and above the earth) 🫂🦋💙

Muting a thread doesn't mean I want to stop seeing my own comments or replies, just stop receiving notifications. many times I go to my profile, to the "replies" section, and most of them are simply gone; I've lost them forever.

I know other members of the team seem pretty reluctant to do so, but I think it would be a good idea to seriously consider raising the character limit by an extra 200, or at least an extra 100

For gods sake put up a filter against attention-seeking grown men in diapers, women showing their coochies or boobs, and other really vulgar, sexualized posts and accounts. If BSKY people REALLY want that crap here make it an opt-in option, not a block-report-hide requirement.

I find it hard to believe —more like impossible — that someone who's been here long enough to make over 4k posts and reposts hasn't come across the moderation options that are very easy to find and implement. If those options leave out categories or types of content, suggest they be added.

I love the sentiment of "the internet belongs to you". I will surely look back and laugh if this platform becomes enshittified. Just always listen to users more than shareholders and things will be fine.

i have to go to settings > switch acct > select acct, on my phone. in the bird app, you just click on the profile pic to switch from either the RT/text box/reply box. so like less steps. i used to use tweetdeck when i was on there, also easier.

I know the request for an edit option is popular but I'd really like a way to separate my posts from my reposts. If not also separate, quote posts should go in the posts category as they have commentary added and reposts only have the original post material.

It’s gotta be edits Reasoning: • private needed for good bookmarks + bsky account recently shared the pin feed • private ain’t gonna be ready yet that’s a bigger project

Let me be clear; That you seemingly can't figure out how to support one of the two orientations otherwise supported by pretty much every mobile app in existance, SHOULD be highly embarrassing for you and your team.

Is this just a ploy to get us to list our own most-wanted features…? 2x speed on videos would be great. Also custom preview placement on 2+ image posts—just so annoying posting without knowing exactly where the images will crop on multi-image posts, particularly vertical oriented and mixed images.

Therein lies part of the problem, at least as I see it. Real conversations need to have depth and flow naturally without feeling restricted or corralled into a dumbed-down version of what people really want to say. Finding a creative way to introduce long-form content, while continuing to give...

... users a robust moderation/filtration system to curate their feed and experience on the platform, seems like a no-brainer. Yes, I can extend my thoughts by hitting the + button and adding more content. But is it efficient or elegant? No, it's not. I still have to think and write in fragments.
