1857 Oregon state constitution vote included two big questions: First was if Oregon should be a slave state, against won 60%. Second was if black people could live in Oregon, against won 80%. This rippled through state history, and is one of the reasons Portland now has major racism blindspots.

The "racism is only in the South" propaganda worked so well in this country that ppl dont even know that Oregon the state was created to be the WHITE utopia of the United States & their laws kept black ppl out up until 1926 and was fully ratified to rid the racist language of the law in 2002...... 😶

Even as a little white boy in 1990s Portland, I saw the outlines of the all-but-legal segregation in the city. I didn't have the words for it, except that I was told to avoid areas of town. It wasn't until later that I learned that was code for black neighborhood.

Despite WWE taking twice as much of your time, you gave your article the title that you did. So either you're a shitty writer, you're a dumbass or you're a shill. I mean, I guess you could be two of them. Maybe all three.

Fair point. I should clarify that further. On the flip side...25 hours is a lot of time, isn't it? And it says a lot when we have to add an hour of overrun a week. WWE is a lot too! No show should be 3 hours. But I feel between the long ppvs and overruns AEW asks for a lot too.

baseball historical data: we at retrosheet have found that on august 2nd, 1911, bricky sticks did not in fact advance to third on a fielder's choice. we regret the error nfl historical data: in 2023 a center snapped the ball to himself and scored a -109 yard field goal. what a play by [NULL]

This is baby-brained analysis. This is an honorable mention for the top 25 corruptions in the history of FIFA. No dead bodies, no confirmed bribes (yet), no sportswashing of atrocities, no destroyed homes, etc If you have a sanctity of sport this high, but don't care about the dead bodies? Yikes.

Look if you think it’s fine for Trump to corruptly get a red card revoked (or “suspended”) bc FIFA is already corrupt, maybe you understand the MAGA mindset better than you think. “All politicians are corrupt so it’s ok for Trump to be corrupt” is a very common maga rationalization

Musk says not a single person has died due to him axing USAID. Sadly, part of my job involves tracking aid spending. So here’s a thread with just some of the people who lost their lives because of USAID cuts

60% drop in reviews if people even smell AI on your game - full supports the investors, developers, and publishers that took a hard "no gen-AI" stance, despite grifters' proclamations that they were "going to be left behind".

I wish Portugal a very lose this match, you fucking choke artists. lol, ronald, you idiot. should've stayed home. #worldcup #porvscod

My Spite Parley: CR7 gets 0 goals, tries to poach one off a teammate, and this causes Portugal to spiral out and lose this game. I'm betting $0, but it would be very funny. #worldcup

Wow, I think the change to 48 teams is good and cool now. Incredible so far, no real shitty games so far from a neutral perspective. #worldcup

Just arrived here at the Scalzi Compound: The advance reading copy of Monsters of Ohio. It looks fantastic. I'm likely to give one away in the next couple of days. Stay tuned. PS: That amazing cover art? Michael Koelsch did it.

baseball is always some guy who is a physically perfect specimen being guided day and night by world class trainers, nutritionists, and doctors hoping to beat a record set by some guy named Pickles Bitch in 1937 who lived on cigarettes and moonshine and did not exercise other than baseball games

This is the problem with "cheaper energy", is that it will never decrease rates for the utility customers until it has percolated through the utility and been noticed by people. Cheap electricity is hard to convince people of until after it happens.

David Roberts@volts.wtf

I think this episode might make some people angry, but it contains a tremendously important insight: if you have enough storage on the grid, large new loads can soak up unused capacity & *reduce rates*. Handled correctly, data centers can make electricity cheaper for everyone.
