The DCCC appears to have decided the best closing message for the midterms is "vote for us and we'll work together with the GOP to stomp the shit out of that tranny filth" and meanwhile liberals are scolding trans people on this site for being skeptical about voting D

Modern civilization will say shit like "Oh, that's a wicked problem, it can't be solved, only managed" and then not manage it

I think that we need a more general recognition of the fact that "Secret of the Ooze" is an excellent subtitle for any sequel, or really anything.

What do you want to bet that the Ellisons promised to use their media dominance to juice-up Newsom's presidential bid?

Democrats caved and/or facilitated this monopolization of practically every major media property in the US into the hands of a MAGA fascist psychopath. If the US had an opposition party, each of its presidential contenders would would vow to dissolve this monopoly by any means necessary.

It's worth noting that the cultural memory of mid-20th century science fiction as an uncritical techno-utopia is itself an instance of a torment nexus problem. Like, you're engaging with the aesthetics of this genre without engaging with its substance.

It continues to be interesting to me just how many men, when presented with a clear and obvious answer to a test of morality and empathy, will nevertheless choose to "devil's advocate" themselves into a position of complete assholery

I'm willing to go one further: everyone should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries whether they're making income for stockholders or not.

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

The midterms are shaping up to be a referendum on whether trans people should exist, with Republicans saying we shouldn't and Democrats saying maybe Republicans have a point on some of these issues. Good luck, everybody!

assignedmedia.orgDemocratic Candidates Abandon Trans Folks, Are Attacked For Their Support Anyway - Assigned MediaLeading Off: Republicans set the stage for further attacks on trans rights while some democrats continue to walk back support. Our top headlines as we start off the week.

Controversial opinion, but I don't think it's possible for regular people to meaningfully defame billionaires. Like I think it's basically impossible for anything I say online about JK Rowling to demonstrably hurt her. I don't think that such lawsuits should be legal.

Guys, I can't stress this enough: We had nothing to do with this. Tucker's team cut this up like this. They are 100% serious. These people really are this stupid.

The year is 1969 and the executives are cancelling Star Trek after grievously mishandling it The year is 2005 and the executives are cancelling Star Trek after grievously mishandling it The year is 2026 and the executives are cancelling Star Trek after grievously mishandling it

Happy Star Trek day from the tiny Borg action figure that I keep on my desk to remind me to always be obsessed with hiveminds!

Going to be honest, I don't think that things will ever be "normal" again, and that my default impulse of asking "but how will this look when things return to normal" is now a maladaptive social behaviour. The world we grew up in is gone.

Even by reactionary centrist standards, this is an insane issue to hang this argument on. Gaza *is* a case of an oppressor and victim. There's no "both sides" reason why hospitals need to be bombed and children starved.

have to imagine living in mid- to late-30s Europe had a similar vibe. Hitler taking these insanely aggressive gambles and almost every opposition figure going "buhh guhh duhh...uhh...he'll probably be satisfied with the Sudetenland right" bsky.app/profile/sahi...

What @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social told me the House agenda will be next year if Democrats win —Reverse Trump’s Medicaid cuts —Extend expired ACA tax credits —Restore Congress’s authority on tariffs —“Decisively” end the Iran war Beyond that: “We’ve established five working groups on affordability”
