I will die mad at JK Rowling. I loved these books. They're how I fell in love with reading. My dad would get the audio books on cassette from the library for road trips. My wife and I would listen on roadtrips later too. We'd watch the movies on holidays. I looked forward to reading with my kids.

Evan here: What makes it a slur to me is that you really can't understand it as anything other than a claim of dishonesty. "These people say they're x but they are y" is a long way of saying "these people are all liars." A term with no meaning other than disparagement is a slur.

The "protection" narrative promoted by Trump and far-right groups like Heritage is a dangerous fallacy. Trump's DOE has abandoned sexual assault investigations under Title IX. It has set rules that effectively put the survivors of rape on trial and that favor the men accused of victimizing them.

Everyone with a shred of objectivity already knows this to be obviously true, but it's still good to have data supporting the fact that transphobes are just bog-standard misogynist bigots, and the attempts to frame transphobia as some kind of feminist virtue are insultingly transparent.
