I need a moratorium on CS guys talking about theories of cognition until they've taken at least one graduate level course on the subject, ran their thoughts by at least one PhD in neuroscience, and have detoxed from AI chatbots for at least one week beforehand

I broke my instance badly enough that I needed a full wipe. These instructions for setting it up again were fantastic! And with the re-partitioning step, this time things will be much more stable.

The NYT is being disingenuous here. The AMA has *always* said that gender-affirming surgeries should generally be reserved for adults. That's part of why so few kids get them! The AMA reiterated this position and the NYT is characterizing it as a policy change. It's not.

NYTimes Communications@nytimespr.bsky.social

The New York Times’s body of reporting on the American Medical Association’s stance on gender-related care for minors is accurate and factual, and remains so despite the recent statement from the Chair of the A.M.A. Board, which contradicts the A.M.A.’s own statements. www.nytco.com/press/fact-c...

Sorry, but triumphant claims about autonomous vehicle safety are wildly exaggerated. It's an open question whether today’s self-driving cars are any safer than those driven by humans. And if reducing crashes is the goal, that isn’t even the right question. My deep dive, in Bloomberg 🧵

bloomberg.comWe Still Don’t Know if Robotaxis Are Safer Than Human DriversAnd even if self-driving technology proves to be less dangerous, there are many better ways to improve traffic safety and prevent fatal crashes.

It’s true: the cities are lawless and scary, if you live here sell your property as fast as possible, particularly if you have a 2 family row house from the 1920s with those nice bay windows.

moments ago, ice agents again came out of the broadview detention/“professing” facility to escort a silver suv out of the lot. one of the agents picked up and threw congressional candidate kat abughazaleh to the ground.

like so many products to come out of silicon valley in the last decade or so, AI is a legal innovation masquerading as a tech innovation. the legal theory seems to be that AI is entitled to everything but liable for nothing.

Ars Technica@arstechnica.com

AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.

if musicians not getting paid wasn't enough for you, and Spotify CEO Daniel Ek investing 600 million euros in an AI war company wasn't enough for you, does having to upload your ID and turn on your webcam to listen to music finally convince you not to pay Spotify?

Mike Stabile@mikestabile.bsky.social

Spotify is now instituting face scans and ID checks ... to listen to music. Porn was only ever the excuse. The only thing that surprises me is how quickly the government surveillance mandate has spread to absolutely every service we use. www.404media.co/spotify-uk-a...
