Friend of Hypha, Zeke Williams, just released an important paper explaining how Big Tech's influence is driving irresponsible AI development, and charting a course towards alternative, more equitable, models of development. Check it out!
1/7 Proud to share our paper, accepted as an oral at ICML '26! We highlight how Big Tech’s influence on AI R&D drives damaging outcomes, and what we as researchers can do about it. We also discuss underlying economic causes. See link for paper, and below for a brief summary arxiv.org/abs/2512.03077
With Massachusetts set to decide on a number of high-stakes ballot questions this November, Hypha partnered with mapletestimony.org to give voters a forum to share their opinions. Read more about our engagement with MAPLE in our new case study
Very interesting new report from CanTrust Hosting Co-operative and @hypha.coop that asks the question whether Canadian co-operatives can build, own, and govern their own AI infrastructure is possible and feasible.

Something, a queer Toronto organization, was gearing up for the #Pride edition of its flagship event.
Then the group's co-founders couldn’t access their Instagram account, which had nearly 10,000 followers. Their small business and personal accounts had been disabled.

This is an extremely concerning development. Designing systems to be insecure makes everyone less secure, no matter who holds the keys to the backdoor.

We did a massive investigation, made a zine, and then threw a sold-out party. What part of that doesn't make you want to support independent local media?!

this is off-the-cuff, but I've been pounding the table about it for a while--implementation is and remains the easy part. AI services are the easy part
the hard part is *executive strategy* and I am not aware of anyone going even near consulting, etc. for that completely underserved segment
so you join bluesky, but ah these people are so annoying!
