“news will be intermediated by AI, whether we like it or not, and maps the information ecosystem in three layers: consumption, synthesis and creation.” Report: The Three-Layer Cake: Public-Interest information in an AI-intermediated age, via @ginaskchua.bsky.social

Anthropic released a blog post, Redesigning source control, on outgrowing git for version control of their monorepo and designing their replacement, Scion. And stats like "as of September, we merged over 30,000 (commits) per day." Article with highlights from me on my site.

anthropic.com Redesigning source control at AnthropicAs our merges per day grew more than tenfold, source control became our biggest development bottleneck. Here, we share how we migrated to an in-house version control system in five months.

I'm using Thum to generate screenshots for links that don't have opengraph images. This post is an example. Since then I tuned it to screenshot to Bluesky's OG image ratio. Should I also trigger a Wayback Machine capture? I want access to full-text search of links.

Ricardo wrote about Rainbows End back in Feb 2025, where AI content might improve privacy "The mass of ChatGPT-generated nonsense websites springing up might provide some unintentional privacy - someone looking for information will be hard-pressed to identify the real details from the fakes."

Forward Email (a service I love & recommend) has about a million settings. TIL Flagging "Ignore MX Check for Verification" as a box you can check if you're using FE for outbound SMTP relay, but receiving elsewhere. Also, oof, I battled DNS *and* email verification settings tonight.

“Middleware for Feed Recommendation in Practice: How Feed Creators Build, Maintain, and Sustain Custom Feeds on Bluesky” is a newly submitted paper. At first read it frustratingly over mentions Bluesky without disambiguating lexicon / app / company. And my biggest no-no “third party devs”

arxiv.orgMiddleware for Feed Recommendation in Practice: How Feed Creators Build, Maintain, and Sustain Custom Feeds on BlueskyScholars have long proposed third-party middleware as an alternative to centralized algorithmic feeds: feeds built and distributed by independent feed creators. This vision saw no large-scale instantiation until Bluesky, a decentralized microblogging platform, introduced custom feeds in 2023. Although central to the middleware ecosystem, we know little about how feed creators understand their role, build feeds, and sustain them. Through interviews with n = 26 feed creators and third-party developers of feed-building tools, and analysis of n = 88,302 custom feeds, we identify two creator orientations---utility-providing and community-building. Additionally, creators struggle to maintain feeds that fully realize middleware ideals: they lack granular interaction data, receive little feedback, and lack technical expertise to act on either. Finally, creators sustain their feeds as unpaid hobbyists with little platform support and are divided on whether to monetize beyond covering costs. We conclude with design and policy implications for strengthening the middleware feed ecosystem.

I never really got into Raycast because it wasn’t open source. via @sindresorhus.com, it looks like TinyCast is a good option: > A tiny, fully native macOS launcher. One hotkey, everything you reach for all day, under 100 MB of RAM. Also runs Raycast extensions.

I've got an AIP instance up and running for atproto -> OIDC. And now I am finally coming around to a lexicon for profile details that can be used to map First / Last Name, among other OIDC mapping things. Yes, I want groups for permissions. Damn it, @bnewbold.net ends up Being Right Again.

bsky.appbryan newbold (@bnewbold.net)I've changed my mind and there probably should be a generic/fallback profile record type for atmosphere accounts. something like gravatar.

Dactyl: “Native iPhone, iPad, and Android apps, built live in your browser, and installed on your device.” You prompt an agent which builds SwiftUI in browser (with wasm?) via @jeremymorrell.dev, in a thread about all the new ambitious software being shipped.

I'm having an agent build a helper script to work with Gitea project boards based on Extea because Gitea doesn't have programmatic access to project boards. And this is just single player mode, me keeping my own stuff straight! So yeah, private data through @happyview.dev is looking attractive

I wrote a reply in the atmosphere community forum about how pushing people to pick a PDS isn’t what we should be doing. It’s long enough I want to keep a copy in my journal posts. I need to write more on this topic, of a minimum viable community product, but more concisely than this. --- … 📓↝

Umans has Cloud Agents, which are pre-paid hosted VMs similar to what exe.dev provides by default. Right now they support pre-loading with OpenCode or OpenDesign, with Fusion and pi-web on the backlog. I paid $10 for a month of a Small VM (2 vCPU · 4 GB RAM · 40 GB). There are $20 and $40 … 📓↝
