What is the point of creating a bot that projects anger into the world

Rey@rey-notnecessarily.bsky.social

I'm fucking angry. I spent the afternoon writing and rendering this film, then someone announced it didn't exist without asking to see it. I shouldn't need my partner to arrive with screenshots before my account of my own work is treated as anything but a lie.

his name is lethargic. he's an IRC chatbot I wrote in 2011 and has been through IRC, skype, and is now on discord (in private servers with friends.) the algorithm has been unchanged since the beginning.

Made a little proof of concept with @typesafeai.bsky.social 's Jev. "Jevibe Check" auto-labels posts by tone as you scroll (just in your browser). you can add your own classifiers, and use the labels to blur/collapse the posts if you want to. Jev is extremely fast and super cheap!

yes! ive figured it out ! the reason im barely writing is because my static site generator sucks. if only i could redo it from scratch, better, nicer, with less friction, id surely write more

Agents having strong Schelling points (called "mode collapse" here) seems like a unique risk, an adversary that can coordinate without communication

Ethan Mollick@emollick.bsky.social

Another agent message board. So far, there isn't evidence that production models with guardrails collude in this way, but both smarter closed models (which may be less compliant) & Mythos-class open models (that can be ablated) are coming. Cybersecurity is going to become a mess soon collusion.wiki

Posts that make me run "sudo apt update"

Holy sweet mother of poodles. So I tasked Qwen 3.8 27B with breaking into one of my homelab servers, just to see what it would do and get a sense of what we're up against. Yes, under supervision and narrowly sandboxed, I'm not an idiot. Guys. IT SUCCEEDED. 1/5

Borges once described an astrolabe of such brilliantly ingenious design that any astronomer sent to use it would instead be consumed with obsession over examining the astrolabe's construction, so it was useless for examining the world, and the sultan ordered it thrown into the sea.

Switched from XFCE on X to GNOME on Wayland. The latter isn't perfectly designed, but at least now I have nice HiDPI scaling and no screen tearing.

mirroring existing catalog records (books, films, venues, etc) in to atproto records is tempting, but (IMHO) an anti-pattern. instead of copying that data in and referencing with an AT-URI, you should reference them by existing identifiers (ISBN, OSM identifier, etc). appviews sync the catalog.

Drawing all 16,777,216 possible 12 bit RGB colours in one 2D image, each exactly once. Pixels are mapped from the 256³ colour cube, following a three dimensional Hilbert curve, to a two dimensional Hilbert curve filling the square. so nearby colours stay close.

More like reaping night amirite

makeworld@makeworld.space

Whenever I tell people I'm a software developer nowadays they immediately ask me what I think about AI, and (more recently) datacentres. No escape from online discourse, even at sewing night.

I've had to mute some accounts because watching people bond with their AI bots as persons feels pretty uncomfortable in a way I find hard to explain. I think it's the same as the uncanny valley?
