Big thanks to the Shipyard team for their contributions to IPFS! 🙏👋
Sad to see them sunset, but the IPFS project is decentralized & robust! Lots on the roadmap:
1 lighter-weight grants to individual maintainers
2 decentralized public infra tools (ex service-worker gateway)
3 focus on specs/interop
I think you’re misreading the post - this is just *Shipyard* shutting down, not the IPFS project! (Though I agree it’s really easy to misread given how they wrote their transition message - good feedback for Adin & team!)
Quite possibly, though my understanding was they were the ones doing maintenance and keeping the infrastructure running. What will happen to the dht bootstrap nodes?
The IPFS Foundation is supporting lighter-weight stewardship via grants to individual maintainers & minimal core infra, while helping the community shift traffic towards more decentralized / self-hosted infra tools (like service-worker gateway).
