At the end of #IOSP2026 we did a round of "what are you excited for?" It was great to hear one of the participants say "my new @aster.id !" Let's do this!!

Reach out to us if you want to help out with organizing the event! (part of @atmosphereconf.org April 29-May 2, Amsterdam)

Ronen Tamari@ronentk.me

Already starting to work on the 2027 edition of @atproto.science , this time in collaboration with @scios.tech , it's gonna be epic! In Leiden w/ @tgoerke.bsky.social @gui.do @wesleyfinck.org @byarielm.fyi @salteelee.aster.id and friends

Later today, we're going to be welcoming the first researchers onto our PDS at #IOSP2026! Aster ID starts today. 🌼

The modern research ecosystem of online tools and communities is controlled by for-profit companies. But we think that researchers should be the priority - not the product. So, we're announcing Aster ID: not-for-profit Atmosphere account hosting for researchers.

Hey @atproto.science ppl πŸ‘‹ which researcher profiles do you actually keep updated? e.g. @orcid.org, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, university/lab page, LinkedIn, funder CV's (NWO, ERC, NIH biosketch), Academia.edu, conference apps... Anything else...? Which ones do you never (or hate to) update?

Recap of yesterday's CIDS assembly at TUD @tudresden.bsky.social Philipp @lorenzspreen.eurosky.social had a proper booth for the Synosys poster. I brought an A3 print, and people found that funny. That's a resource allocation problem. The real value was the conversations, so here they are 🧡

What if researchers owned their accounts, their data and their networks? We think they should, and we are building it. @atproto.science Tomorrow we will show it at the CIDS assembly at TU Dresden, with Philipp @lorenzspreen.eurosky.social @tudresden.bsky.social 14:15–15:00. Come ask us anything

yet another example of scientists vibing better ways to navigating conferences because the current system is trash. we (atproto) have a real surface here if we can get a cohesive solution into the hands of conference attendees and organizer #atdev @atproto.science

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS!! 6+ months of work by SO many people is converging on a fantastic thing for researchers online. We want to democratize access to research infrastructure online, for good, and we've put together an amazing team to make it happen. ❀️

This is going to be big, kudos to the @aster.id team. We can just transform research, together 🀝 #wecanjustdothings

This is fantastic! Imagine how cool it would be to have a version only for all the science conversations 🀯 #Academicsky #ATScience πŸ§ͺ

Jaz@jaz.sh

Okay so I've built a new Atlas, this time it lets you explore the conversations on Bluesky over the past 7 days graphically. It should update every ~6 hours and help you navigate the information environment that exists on here. I've learned a LOT about what people do here today... atlas.jazco.dev

I made a little social bibliography atproto app. You can post papers you read and see what your friends are reading. Paper info autofills from links, and it exports to bibtex. There's chronological and following only feeds, maybe more to come, and you can organize papers into lists for your own use.

We heard there were a lot of @atproto.science discussions here... Watch this space ;) (and welcome @mirascience.bsky.social !)

Notes from our kick-off workshop in Ireland this June πŸ€ @scios.tech worked with @discoursegraphs.bsky.social to facilitate a fantastic workshop of 20+ researchers, technologists, and open science leaders to design and build a new modular medium for research! Participating people/orgs >

I'm convinced that open social protocols like #atproto have a crucial role to play in the future of science. Excited to share MOSAIC - our best effort at articulating the thesis, why it matters, and how to build and fund it (in collab w/ @exgenesis.ingroup.social ) 🧡

"A counterculture does something else entirely. It finds the ungoverned space, builds the parallel system, and reaches the audience first. The mainstream is then forced to respond to something it had neither authorised nor understood." Great theory of change for science (and a lot of other fields)

Very cool project connecting atproto with the Underlay knowledge graph protocol "[The Underlay] is an archive. [atproto] is a wire. Together they give a collection both permanence and real-time distribution." And check out these neat #ATScience examples too! www.underlay.org/blog/2026-04...

Awesome stuff! In "trad" sci, the rich web of blogs and social media engagement with research is flattened into a "mentions" counter. With interfaces like these and @atproto.science more broadly we can start treating these as valuable contributions in their own right! For example, >

Papers on chive.pub now have an Atmosphere tab, which collects up records elsewhere on the network that refer to it.

I tell you, the match between #atproto and open academic publishing is made in heaven. If we have learned anything from the for-profit-publishing, AI slop, and Twitter/X polycrisis, the future of academic publishing is decentralized eprints on #atproto, an it may well begin right here.

Chive@chive.pub

Alongside a bunch of bug fixes, we've got a few new features on chive.pub we're excited about. Most of them involve connecting a paper to other things that relate to it on the Atmosphere and beyond.

Lab setup for #ATScience IOSP workshop plays atmosphere synths sounds. FMOp, Wavefolding, Filtering, Delay & Reverb via Mozzi audio library. Every interaction at the on-screen keyboard publishes a music.atproto.noizetoyz.synth.note record and re-broadcasts to a listener on the Wemos/ESP8266 boards.

I am playing with some ESP8266 Wemos D1 boards to read sensor data and to play synth sounds using Sensorium Mozzi.
