Friend of Hypha, Zeke Williams, just released an important paper explaining how Big Tech's influence is driving irresponsible AI development, and charting a course towards alternative, more equitable, models of development. Check it out!

Ezekiel Williams@ezekielwilliams.bsky.social

1/7 Proud to share our paper, accepted as an oral at ICML '26! We highlight how Big Tech’s influence on AI R&D drives damaging outcomes, and what we as researchers can do about it. We also discuss underlying economic causes. See link for paper, and below for a brief summary arxiv.org/abs/2512.03077

Okay, I'm at my wits' end. Anyone who has actually backfilled all of the network, how did you do it?

Replying to @distributed.camp

So what happens when people can build their own software AND define their interface? What I said then and said now remains. The value then shifts from the developed experience to high quality data feeds. Right now people are hand-wringing about LLM-generated 'production' code. It's too late.

Pollen is now available! If you thought our talk was cool, try the demo for yourself: nectar.hypha.coop Or read the blog post I wrote to understand how and why it works: hypha.coop/dripline/pol...

Our Pollen browser extension is now live on Chrome and Firefox! It's an experimental tool for adding "claims" to images on Bluesky (commentary, provenance, facts) directly attached to the image content itself. nectar.hypha.coop

My answer to this isn't technical, it's about power dynamics. Your PDS is the server that puts your data on the internet. You've never needed to think about that because your data has always been on Facebook or Google or Amazon's servers. We're doing the same thing, but billionaire-proofing it.

How do you explain what “my atproto” means though? This is different from email in that it actively defies decades of implicit learning people have done about how the internet works, and it’s not one service w an easy analogy (mail)

Lovely to see @couleurs.bsky.social getting some appreciation. Thanks @finest.day!

Written media, from this bluesky post to the front page of the Toronto Star, will soon be consumed primarily via AI mediators. We believe this can be a time of great opportunity for media publishers, so we put together this short survey of the evolving landscape to help you navigate the moment.

good spore explainer for all gardeners in the atmosphere

When spores.garden generates your theme, it also determines if you get a special spore✨. It will be displayed in your garden to start, but other gardeners can steal it, enabling it to travel throughout the network of gardens! Can you find any spores in the wild?

If you’ve been wondering what spores.garden is, this one’s for you.

Not a blog, not a website builder, not a social media. Spores.garden is a cozy place to highlight whatever is important to YOU. Write new posts, share images, and bring together your ideas from across the Atmosphere by editing and adding new sections to your garden.
