He's also been a major supporter of scientific research funding, which is a critical issue that doesn't get the attention I think it deserves; restoring the research funding that Trump has cut needs be a top priority for the next Congress.

Senator Wiener has also been a prolific author on the leading edge of all kinds of other issues. To name just a few, he got a major AI safety regulation bill passed through the legislature (Newsom unfortunately vetoed it, but his proposal is still shaping future discussions).

In contrast, his opponent has had a long record of obstructionist votes to block new housing from getting built, and has opposed several funding proposals for public transit.

She also wants to bring cars back to Sunset Dunes & Golden Gate Park (which were recently pedestrianized and transformed into beautiful, hugely popular park spaces). Overall when it comes to housing and transportation policies, the difference is about as stark as it gets for an urban election.

As a state senator, Scott Wiener has been one of the most effective legislators in the country at passing policies to get more housing built and to fund public transit.

I was especially impressed by his ability to get SB 79 passed, which is a landmark bill that will allow for a lot more housing to get built near major public transit stations throughout California.

Donation advice for the close Minnesota State Senate races. You don’t need to donate to the ones who already hit their spending cap! The ones below are the ones that could really use your help. If you’re going to, do it soon so they can put the money to use!

A couple weeks ago I went out to Coon Rapids to doorknock for Angela Nelson, and on my ride home I stumbled across the Coon Rapids Dam, which is a stunningly beautiful place. I was back in Coon Rapids yesterday to judge a high school debate tournament, and made sure to go back on the same route.

Experiences like this are part of why I love to bike to places whenever I can. There's just not that feeling of exploration and discovery when you're driving along a highway.

If you ever need to go from Minneapolis to Coon Rapids/Anoka/Brooklyn Park, I suggest taking it! It's a pretty direct, mostly low-stress route along West River Parkway.

We functionally pay violent drivers over $1 trillion per year in subsidies so they can kill and horrifically maim millions of Americans per year. That's the medical/loss of life/disability cost *paid by victims and society* for letting drivers drive violently. All so they can have cheap insurance.

This is correct. Dealerships make way more money off maintenance than sales for gasoline fueled vehicles.

Having bought two EVs and a hybrid, I think a big part of America’s sloth in adopt adopting EVs is car dealerships’ management being heavily Republican, and having a business model that relies on repairs that EV‘s don’t need.

This should be a pretty interesting discussion!

How often, when driving a car, do you run across a friend, and then slow down and chat for a bit? It happens kind of a lot when you use bikes for transportation.

I strongly support the sales tax increase to fund HCMC. We can't let our safety net hospital close. But I am intensely opposed to the $7 million per year that SF 4986 would also give to the Twins Stadium. It's a major expansion of corporate welfare. The Pohlads should pay for it!

Not sure a full ban is in the cards or necessarily desirable in some cases. But we absolutely must reconsider our relationship to parkways and I'm proud that the board voted to do just that. Will have updates on the pilot soon! Be sure to stay tuned and engage with it so it can be a huge success!

The bill should be amended to shift that $7 million/yr to HCMC, libraries, youth activities, homeless shelters or public transit. There are so many pressing needs that are way more important than subsidizing a billionaire's stadium.

Please understand that this would be *new* money for the Twins. The original deal was that when the stadium debt was paid off, the 0.15% sales tax would expire. It was not part of the deal to keep giving the Twins money after that.

In my job working for Senator Fateh, I get a lot of phone calls asking for him to support "repurposing the ballpark sales tax to fund HCMC." Almost all of the callers are under the impression that the bill would redirect money *away* from stadium. But it gives them way more!
