Holy shit: Deutsche Bahn has made the insane decision to stop all train traffic between Düsseldorf and Cologne... during the week of Gamescom.

yeah the RE1 is not gonna stop at the Cologne trade fair, RE6 still will but it takes twice as long as the RE1 would. i'm gonna be working at gamescom but i live in the Ruhr area which is usually not that big of a problem but now i'm not actually sure how to make it to Cologne in the early mornings

When going to Berlin for ffxiv fanfest via train they also forced me to take the bus from frankfurt oder to Berlin route. Db are unfunny joke normally but this year they are extra godawful. Next German government to fix this will have mandate of heaven in my eyes.

I just checked the DB navigator app from Düsseldorf main station to Köln Messe Deutz where the gamescom is.... Every train there is normally shedueled without any warning on every day. So... I don't know wich lines are meant but there is still direct traffic to gsmescom.

So...nothing new? Lol As someone who has to use their services on a daily basis for work related commutes, I am not surprised at all of their ignorance towards events that "might" cause a huge spike in travelers. Wish you all the best of luck. Grab an extra bottle of water!

I may regret sharing this information, but: There's another train from Düsseldorf to Cologne (Deutz), which is not impacted by this absolutely mind-boggling decision, as it's taking another route. This will likely be the best option for those commuting between the two cities during gamescom.

For those who don't know, this is what every tram station, train station, hen house, and out house looks like during the week. It is packed beyond belief. This cannot be safe with replacement busses.

Apparently this should only affect the east side of the rhine, so trains could still go via the west side of the rhine via Neuss, but that would still cut 50% of the routes, making those trains extra packed

that … is insane. Like absolutely boneheaded and irresponsibly insane. I’ve been to Gamescom a few times and I’ve always taken the train and they were ALWAYS packed to the brim. What the fuck is this logic?!?!?!
