✍️ Just published a new post about my most-anticipated CSS proposals from Interop 2027! If you’re not familiar, the Interop project is a collaboration between browsers to pick shared focus areas. There’s *so much* good stuff this year, it was hard to pick just 10!

joshwcomeau.comThe Future of CSS ✨ • Josh W. ComeauEvery year, browser vendors collaborate via the Interop project to synchronize their efforts on new HTML/CSS/JS features. This year, there’s a ton of super exciting features being considered! In this ...

Very bad news. Screwworm appears to have made it to Texas, as was predicted. These parasites eat the living flesh of cattle, cause horrible pain, and can ultimately kill them. Yesterday, USDA Chief Brooke Rollins categorically denied that screwworm was close to the border.

I’m a climate scientist. Let me fix this headline. “Nearly a century ago, scientists showed that burning fossil fuels warms the planet. Today, we know human emissions account for over 100% of the warming. Yet dark money and disinformation still work to keep Americans addicted to fossil fuels.”

We have records of diabetes diagnoses going back 2,500 years. We only developed a reliable treatment (insulin) 100 years ago. Now we might have a cure. What an amazing thing to get to witness.

Ian Weissman, DO@drianweissman.bsky.social

A patient with type 1 diabetes has begun producing his own insulin after receiving a transplant of pancreatic cells. For the first time, islet cells have been edited so they wouldn't be rejected by the patient, removing the need for immunosuppressant drugs. www.sciencealert.com/first-of-its...

Missing the point entirely. The point is to make groceries affordable not manipulate people into making more of a profit Why and in which way are they supposed to out perform private ones?

Mark Cuban@mcuban.bsky.social

This will make some folks mad :). The best way for these grocery stores to work is if they use AI to get an edge over private grocery stores. AI is the one way for the state government to out perform private enterprises.

Saw some comments flying on r/Pebble about people worried about breaking their new Pebble Time 2. I get it, especially after waiting 1 (or 10) years! Seven people have reported breaking their PT2 in some way. We replaced each one (for free) - we know how rough this would feel after such a long wait

I think everyone who thinks that it is no longer necessary to understand software engineering principles because of AI should spend a few minutes every day browsing /r/vibecoding. It's so so clear that technical skills are still worthwhile.

No it doesn’t. Being an asshole isn’t ideological diversity, it’s just edgelording. Wanting livable wages, healthcare, peace, kindness-those are all supposed to be 99% agreeable stuff. Folks just want to live their lives and occasionally get Friday’s off work. These don’t require a devils advocate.

👋🏾 Hey underrepresented folks in tech! Do you have a blog, podcast, course or youtube channel that folks in tech should know about? Please share it. I'm looking for content to share in @diversifytech.com's newsletter. Thank you!

Example: a value is changed in X index, then when we update X index, the old X isnt deleted its replaced, where that old X index goes if we can append it to 'historical BSA' then we track historical I was fumbling through documentation and then I said to self "Let me ask, Carly" :-)

This is also me 🤣...

Taylor Poindexter @engineeringbae.bsky.social

My mom raised me to be someone who always asks questions and respectfully disagrees whenever I think someone is pushing me to do something I don't agree with. I've always loved this fact about myself. But this coupled with inheriting my father's expressive face can be HELL in corporate America 😂

I remember when 18F was created. I was a contractor at Department of State and one of few developers part of redesigning the US Embassy websites. They had a heavy influence on the work we did at the time. Thank you all for your service and I'm so sorry this happened...

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F. 18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it. We made this website to tell our story: 18f.org

If you worked for 18F and got fired, Group together to start a consulting company. It’s just a matter of time before DOGE needs you to fix the mess they inevitably create. They will have to hire your company as a contractor to fix it. But on your terms. I’m happy to invest and/or help

I wonder if y’all realize what’s happening in Canada now? Everyone I know is figuring out how we can support each other, and make sure none of our money goes to the US. It’s a weird mix of patriotism and vengeance. So far, I’ve diverted >$3000 that would’ve gone to the US over the next year.

Most of my promotions were based on my ability to attach my work to the metrics below. Working at a major cloud provider made this a lot easier because we tracked everything. It largely comes down to earning and sharing the credit across different teams including engineering, product, and sales.

Kelsey Hightower@kelseyhightower.com

1. Impact. How much revenue does my work protect or generate? 2. Quality. Does my work meet or exceed customer expectations? 3. Efficiency. Reward making the right buy versus build decision. 4. Reusability. How do others leverage my work? 5. Supportability. How much work do I create for others?
