You and I in a little dev shop
Buy a bag of tokens with the money we've got
Set them free at the break of dawn
'Til one by one, they were gone
Back at git, bugs in the software
Flash the message, "Something's out there"
Floating in the summer sky
Ninety-nine AI agents go bye
I don't think I'd want it. Per them, it's a return to centralized version control servers, ala Subversion. They might have a reason for that model, but I don't.
Claude helped Anthropic outgrow its Git infrastructure — and build the replacement. But the company says Scion is too specialized to release for other teams.
CASTING CALL: I had a team drop out, so I need 2 devs on short notice to join an episode of Web Dev Challenge in Portland on Oct 21–23
TimescaleDB and sensor data challenge. if that sounds like fun, grab a friend and slide into my DMs ASAP! 💜
Here's a thought I'm having today. One of the reasons so many of us are ready to give our jobs away to AI is because we know they have always been bullshit jobs. For a long time now, we've been inventing jobs for people to do because we still require everybody to have a job to survive.
If you had a ticket to Grace Hopper and have not cancelled your plans to go to San Francisco, go to @github.com's LinkedIn right now if you'd like to attend GitHub Universe for free ❤️
I've found myself automating workflows where data is trapped behind a site with no API, and I gotta say, @microsoft.com really nailed it with Playwright. I've done web scraping in the past, but this takes it to another level, including the ability to automate browser interactions. playwright.dev
To the person noting there is not enough money in the world to license every piece of intellectual property stolen for "AI" training: you're sooooo close to the point, friend, keep going, you'll get there if you try
This is what makes automation so hard. Writing the code isn't the problem, it's finding an interface that allows you to complete a task, or query the state of the world so you can determine the next step.
lol one of our website designers used our organization's entire monthly claude credits yesterday and now half the company doesn't know how to do their jobs. it's october 2nd.
Today I set out to automate checking my voter registration. I use a popular website, which works great in a browser, but the organization doesn't provide an API, and the service attempts to prevent non-browser interactions.

I understand why they do this. Bots and bad actors would flood the site with unwanted traffic, which could impact the people the service was designed for.
My lack of interest in AI stems from how I've structured my life around freedom and intentionality. I'm in the fortunate position that allows me to move slow and optimize for experience not productivity.
I've been playing with @duckdb.org and I gotta say the docs are amazing. The built-in web shell is a really nice touch. You can play with DuckDB right inside your web browser. This might be my SQLite replacement. duckdb.org/docs/current
USB-C is the best technology in so long. I bring ONE type of adaptor on business trips now (to charge my computer, my phone, my tablet, my earbuds, my watch, my headphones).
I'm sitting in a meeting right now using my Mac and am borrowing the cord from a ThinkPad user.
Standards win.
Please try to reclaim your precious precious attention, at all costs. Do puzzles. Take walks without a phone. Dear god, try to read, almost anything that isn’t a manifesto will really do. You are going to need your brain.
We removed the compilers from the servers to make them more secure. Now we're racing to put the compilers back with tools that can generate their own code and use them.
I did something I haven't done in a long time, I wrote some code in preparation for this talk, just to remind myself why software development is so hard, and understand why some people are hoping AI can bail them out.
Join me and Kelsey Hightower as we talk to Luca from PlatformEngineering.org about how AI is changing the role of Platform Engineers! Later this morning, 10am PDT.
Pass this on to your friends, colleagues, neighbors and passersby!

There are a lot of people who think their parents got their brains destroyed by Fox News, but somehow they’re not getting their brains destroyed by staying on Twitter.
🚨 OCTOBER 17 — NO KINGS: VOTE EARLY!

Most of my life has been surrounded by this level of kindness. People I have never met take the time to say nice things and practice kindness. It's one of the reasons I still have faith in humanity.
I've never attended to any of your talk but watched some of the replays.
As a non-native English speaker the thing I most admire about you is how brilliantly you manage to express your thoughts with such clarity 🤌✨
