I was recently asked if we should replace the IPCC with something less flawed. My answer is that nothing else could inspire top scholars worldwide to volunteer years of their lives to produce a definitive source on the state of our climate, impacts, and solutions. We have to fund the IPCC.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change faces perhaps the most serious crisis in its nearly 40-year history — but it is too precious to lose go.nature.com/4yRa7KZ

Whoa! Along with the record noted by @bmcnoldy.bsky.social below, this is Miami's longest string of days with coastal flooding reaching at least moderate levels (now seven days and counting). More here: yaleclimateconnections.org/2026/10/reco...
Absolutely incredible: Tuesday morning's high tide in #Miami exceeded the major flood threshold... that is the 1st time it has ever happened in the city's history without a hurricane storm surge. It tied (within 0.1 inches) the storm tides produced by Irene on Oct 15, 1999 and Wilma on Oct 24, 2005.

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

I recently witnessed large-scale geothermal energy production and building heating in Iceland. Awesome in every way! Every country that can should scale up these geothermal technologies ASAP. They are great ways to keep prices low while providing clean, healthy, secure sources of energy & heating.

To act on climate, people need to know: 1. It's real, it's bad, we did it. Blockbusters deliver on this 110%! 2. It matters to me. Narratives do this well, connecting impacts to our lives. 3. Others care + we can fix it. This is what they miss. Disaster's shown as unavoidable & inevitable. More:
