While the second hate campaign aimed at a trans creator in the last six months once again thrives over on Twitter, I’d hope the folks calling themselves allies who decided to go back over there because Bluesky is no different would consider not being there.

Everyone’s seen the Sketchpad demo. Few understand how it actually works. I reimplemented Sketchpad from scratch, and I’m making short videos that recreate Sutherland’s demos and explain how they work. The first 8 are up — from drawing a line to the famous rivet. Link below 👇

this figure must hit hard if you don't think about it for more than five seconds

More and more of Anthropic's documents are LLM slop now. This is not good and shows they're unable to set boundaries

hey if you're trans and you're following me and i'm not following you... (and you post less than a billion times a day) LMK!! I want to basically only follow trans people, especially ones making the computer cool, especially especially ones giving AI side-eye.

(also taking recs for people like this i should follow in general... though i prefer to be mutual when possible cuz that's the source of powerful magic)

Now that my thesis is that the clearest line drawn between various forms of fascism is the desire for an unearned, elevated spot in the hierarchy-- the destination without the journey --I see it everywhere. Fascists are destroying music because they can't see the joy in the journey.

it'd be like quitting carpentry cuz everyone started making furniture out of OSB > IKEA has entered the chat.

Quitting programming as a career right now because of LLMs would be like quitting carpentry as a career thanks to the invention of the table saw.

Colorado & Michigan have become the latest blue states to end Medicaid coverage for trans youth. Solidly blue Colorado will also be IMMEDIATELY shutting off care for all trans kids receiving puberty blockers—despite Trump's rule allowing a 6 month ‘tapering’ period. This is a complete betrayal.

A heartfelt endorsement of @felienne.bsky.social and Hanna Schraffenberger's podcast Computer Science? Off Course! The discussions are whip-smart, but Hanna's "homework" segments in particular stick with me. I often just sit there in motionless silence & absorb her empathy. rss.com/podcasts/com...

rss.comComputer Science Off Course | Podcast on RSS.comThe Computer Science Off Course podcast brings you one paper or book each week to widen your view on what Computer Science is, and what it could be.

Each of the ten episodes is solid and worth a close listen, and they really ramp up as the season progresses. At the risk of spoiler, my personal favourite moment is the end of Computer Power and Human Reason where Hanna pours her heart out to ELIZA. Made me want to cry. Love that they made this.

I gave Braid an A+ back in my press days. I spent 100s of hours working on The Witness at PlayStation, fighting for it, getting it into conferences, and being Jon's personal wrangler. I even coined "Metroidbrainia" after it. I will not be buying Order of the Sinking Star, and neither should you.

vastly better alt-girl version: audio > bandcamp executables > itch images > tumblr text > livejournal video > twitch safetensors > lol wat no

For file type, there is at least one type of social media built around it: images > instagram, video > youtube, vertical video > tiktok, audio > clubhouse, safetensors > huggingface, executable files > github

Have you noticed, lately, or noticed people around you commenting, that there just seems to be no money anymore. There's no money for companies to make the tv shows you like, the video games you like, the local diner you like shut down, no one you know can find a job. Think about that in context of

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

I think I've reached a point where I'm ready to just bite the bullet on the fact that, yes, we should gatekeep art, actually we do not owe you access to the sum total of every single professional creative skill that was extracted from humanity and put into the machine, without our consent

was never told what those surgeries actually were, who then transitioned, thought some things were a bit odd, tried to chase down details, was virtually *threatened* not to look further by docs who told me lies, took on board some of those lies, accepted those, kept going along with odd symptoms-

Generally speaking I do need AI boosters to understand that I’ve lost my career and future plans entirely to AI-based cost cutting. so any time you’re talking about tech you have to understand people whose livelihoods were destroyed by a thing they didn’t choose to adopt they’re gonna be prickly lol

I've always hated that mainstream languages don't have macros as powerful as lisp macros. So I'm doing my small part to fix that. First an argument why we need them. jimmyhmiller.com/change-our-l... Second a library to add them to typescript sweetener-ts.github.io

jimmyhmiller.comWe Should be Able to Change our Languages — Jimmy MillerIt's time we stopped treating languages as sacred fixed objects. We need now, more than ever, languages we can change.
