Yesterday I made a “plaything” for Igarashi et al.’s excellent SIGGRAPH 2005 paper, As-Rigid-As-Possible Shape Manipulation! Works with a mouse, but it’s much more fun with multi-touch on an iPad. Link below 👇

Everyone’s seen the Sketchpad demo. Few understand how it actually works. I reimplemented Sketchpad from scratch, and I’m making short videos that recreate Sutherland’s demos and explain how they work. The first 8 are up — from drawing a line to the famous rivet. Link below 👇

This week in Livelymerge, Dan Ingalls gives us a tour of Morphic: the scene graph, halos, text editing, and programming tools of the live, malleable kernel that lives inside an Automerge document.

I'm very lucky to do such fun computing every day with such great people 🌱 please watch and enjoy!

Today we're officially sharing the "Introducing Patchwork-26" video from Lab Day at this year's @localfirstconf.com We bring you the first look at Patchwork-26, the latest in our ongoing effort to realize Malleable Software, Universal Version Control, and Local-First Software.

i saw a man on the lizzy line yesterday listening to music on a 3rd gen iPod, and I was so jealous i think the tech future that i want might be the past

unforeseen *benefits* include: - overhearing the neighbours' kids presenting a pretend tv show about their bug hotel (consider my faith in humanity restored) - making friends with neighbour's puppy over the wall - vitamin D

i want to sit outside AND work on the computer, is that too much to ask?

unforeseen issues now include: - accidentally squishing ant into keyboard - neighbours doing loud building work - spine health

FYI you can install Merlin Bird ID on Mac too! :)) It even sends little notifications if it hears a new birb 🐥🎶

This bahn.bet reminded me of @mimi.computer 's isthetubef.uk and about the fact that this world can still be saved.

Lab Day will not be purely filled with talks - but also show live demos, creative experiments, and community projects. A collaborative day that’s part unconference, part showcase, and shaped by the ideas that animate our community. Lab Day is included in your ticket localfirstconf.com

London FoC is back! Presented my work on data ethnographies, space + place and mapping, alongside a host of demos exploring HCI classics, malleable software and permacomputing. Lots of lively discussion all around. Thanks @chee.party @todepond.com @mimireyburn.bsky.social for being awesome hosts.

@priti.is Showing us the Atlas of Intangibles -https://atlasofintangibles.com/ A sensory set of walks through London documenting digitally intangible things: plant growth, sounds, graffiti, weathering, litter, damage. All presented through gorgeous data vis and design And some hardware at the end!

Always a pleasure to hang out with the FoC London crowd, had lots of lovely conversations about this demo and a million other things too. Thanks @chee.party @mimireyburn.bsky.social @todepond.com for hosting, looking forward to the next one!!

Some demos! (Though in parts because Bluesky has a 3 min video limit) 1/2 @orionreed.com making desktop windows malleable: adding sidecar windows, porting data between them, adding custom formatting, and obvs needed some sand and lava piles

It felt unreasonably good saying that Feeling of Computing was sponsored by Feeling of Computing! Thank you @spiralganglion.com @jimmyhmiller.bsky.social Join the patreon at feelingoff.com, join the slack, listen to the podcast, come to the next FoC London 💚

Big ups to @mimireyburn.bsky.social, @chee.party and @todepond.com for bringing the Feeling of Computing to the streets of London, England! I think with your help this town could really put itself on the map someday.
