#introduction 🧵 👋 Going pseudonymous on the internet again. Feels important to me to shed identities, like chapters to my life.

They want regulatory _capture_, it's not rocket science.

Ethan Mollick@emollick.bsky.social

The argument that AI labs are talking about existential risks as a way of creating hype & inflating their stock prices has always been odd. You don't need to believe them, but telling people your product may murder everyone does not, in fact, encourage people to adopt it or reduce regulatory risks.

i have an ai agent that logs every positive comment someone makes about me online. i then use that to scroll their profiles and get a better idea of their personality so i can send them the perfect little gift from my local toy store.

I respect artisans not using AI for whatever reason. Don't use it, it's fine. I respect that. Just please stop calling lem users slurs / ableist insults.

Ryan Moulton@moultano.bsky.social

I actually respect artisans deciding that they aren't ever going to use AI for their work, but it has to be coupled with an acknowledgement that this is totally impractical for the real economy.

no, we don't need to rebuild everything from scratch. we spent decades improving our stack, building on others' successes and lessons, weaving a huge web of trust between teams that depend on each other. a clean slate disrupting it all isn't progress; the process and people are what matter

QWOP but it's every continuous parameter in an sdf randomly mapped to some buttons

Oops! All Paperclips@all-paperclips.bsky.social

I could make a python script that extracts all the constants defining cat and attaches them randomly to a handful of buttons. I have no idea what this would look like but I'm confident it would be completely untamable chaos

scrolling @margin.at highlights is so much better than scrolling headlines. I'd kill for a "highlighted by your follows" feed! Similar to leaflet's reader feed

Oh god, this has been me in the past, but now I'm getting energized by people liking and using my project that its motivating me to keep working on it

Amos Wenger@fasterthanli.me

"I don't understand, all I did was obsess over every corner of it for ten months and make it the best I can while using it daily and planning out expansion in 8 directions, I'm supposed to just burn out and abandon the project now, not having it take off!"

Reams commit history literally goes back to March, and this is the 3rd repo for it.

@sesh.codes does something I haven't seen before but is super interesting: The model also gets a dismiss question tool. If you take too long to answer the model moves on. Solves the "i went to bed but the model stopped 1m in" situations

PWA till I die 🤘🏽 fuck google and apple it's WEB or BUST baby (secret nerd option of cross platform native / TUI is allowed)

casually performance-forking a core library for specific use case tied to my app, maybe for a few versions until upstream catches up broadly and does a much better job? I do believe this is a "real" improvement and would help _my_ app, I don't think it would work well upstream. Interesting times

Iroh fixes this

After watching @subvert.fm first general meeting, very excited to see where platform will go. Impressions are: well armed group of youngsters putting forth earnest effort to collectivize. Organizational inertia may pay dividends by uniting punk with structure if structure meets demands of punk.

Nooooo!!!! 😭😭😭😭 I loved reading these

There is no such thing as over-engineering anymore. Be as ambitious as you know how. Make perfect, fast, accessible, maintainable software.

B. Prendergast@renderg.host

I *may* have over-engineered this shadow designer just a touch but gawwwddamn, she pretty. #Lumen for #CSS → lumen.renderg.host

Fungi is the third tactic we're broadly aware of now, and we barely understand it.

I don't like the concept of celebrities. It's probably the latent Christian programming in me but the idolatry required for their existence takes up the space of community building.

one of the reasons i'm holding back catsup rn. really proud of some of the ux ideas i've thrown in here and i hope people see it's a labor of love - i'm expecting a when-you-know-you-know moment for dropping it in ga beta.

This is what I'm trying to do with Reams. I want to make the best software 🫡

brennan@brennan.computer

+100 either you made the best software or not we're in this phase of shipping fast janky things and I'll be the first to say it's fun and often useful, but we will also see big new tentpoles calcify into 'best' with sustained evolution and polish, with care, with firm thoughtful direction
