🚨 Six WebPKI Intermediate CAs are compromised. This is bigger than Heartbleed, but a client-side issue. Anything that verifies certificates against public roots, like most TLS clients, is/was affected. Details, live test, patched versions and workarounds at emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com Act now.
Disgusting that the "law enforcers" of this country and the goons of the ruling party are going after peaceful protesters, threatening them, doxxing them and forcing them to apologize for exercising their freedom of speech. thewire.in/rights/the-h...

Heartbreaking. And a wake-up call. It is no longer about being difficult to find a way to sustain yourself through your work online. It is no longer sustainable to keep a website up now. Axel has done so much for the web and all of us. Buy one of his books if you can. We've learned so much from him.

Update: reduced @rspack/dev-server deps from 193 → 8, install size from 14.9 MB → 4.1 MB. npm supply chain attacks keep happening and keeping deps minimal makes me feel safer.
Working on modernizing Rspack dev server. No longer tied to webpack-dev-server compatibility. Dependencies are updated and unnecessary ones removed. Early progress: 📉 Direct deps: 28 → 9 📉 Transitive deps: 193 → 76 📉 Install size: 14.9MB -> 9.9MB

CSS is DOOMed! I've build DOOM in CSS and every wall, floor, barrel, and imp is a div, positioned in 3D space using CSS transforms. cssdoom.wtf Try it out! But... not every browser can handle it. This is taking the browser to its limit. Chrome has some issues. Safari too. Bugs will be filed.

The second edition of Designing Data-Intensive Applications, by myself and @chris.blue, is finished and sent off to the printers! Ebooks should be available in the next week, and print books in 3–4 weeks. Sigh of relief. 😅 (BTW, this is a good opportunity to support your favourite local bookshop!)

#Interop2026 is here! Lots of new CSS coming your way: - style queries - anchor positioning improvements (already crossbrowser) - advanced attr() - popover & dialog improvements like lightdismiss - scroll-driven animations - better scroll-snap capabilities wpt.fyi/interop-2026
I thought ✂️ knip.dev would need more work before I could add it but... seamless! Making progress already! ^_^ (lines added are from lockfile when I added knip 🥲)

border-shape can handle both insets and outsets, so you can do effects like this chevron nav (corner-shape can't do both). This means you get a perfectly-wrapping focus ring without needing to manage z-index or having it partially covered due to overlap. Demo: codepen.io/una/pen/ByzY...
Finally solving the tooltip arrow usecase with a new CSS property called border-shape ⚠️ WIP early-stage API, timeline TBD, more info coming soon But it brings a lil tear to my eye to see this working, border & all 🥲 This demo uses anchored container queries + border-shape + a little animation
