This is vital. Writing helps us think. So many students are saying they turn to LLMs because they don’t know what to say, and need to hear that not knowing is normal as one starts to write.

Do you need to know what you think before you start writing? Not necessarily, argues historian Lynn Hunt. In a 2010 #AHAPerspectives essay, Hunt explores how the act of writing itself generates new ideas and why getting words on the page is essential to the thinking process.

This is a big day for me. This novel represents the purest expression of all my formative influences and foundational interests, pressed together + running over. It’s an action thriller, a first contact narrative, a genre-defying thing that no plagiarism machine could algorithmically even aspire to.

This is a hell of an intriguing description! Will read. (oh, hay, look, bsky just sold a book!)

Structurally there's no reason for this at all. The Olympics manages to have men's and women's events side by side. World athletics does too. But in team sports and many other areas there's this insistence that any women's event that happens must compete with rather than run united with men's events

What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.
