I wish more people understood that using AI and being generally in favor of a technology does not equate to supporting any and all usage/implementation of that technology. We all already understand this about computers, the internet, software, cameras, GPS, pharma, etc.

there’s a group of “leftists” on bluesky whose primary form of “praxis” is screaming abusive threats at ordinary everyday people on the internet this is not actually praxis or leftist, and we should not cede ground to their fatalistic and self-defeating behavior

My guess is @emdashcms.com powered by atproto. Who's taking bets?

Matt Kane@mk.gg

I'm going to be launching something pretty big next week, which just happens to include a new atproto AppView, labeler, blob proxy, lexicons. It will have tens of thousands of users, most of whom won't even know they're using atproto, or have even heard of it.

i think we need to do a permission sets push... permission sets are mainly for giving nice human-readable, user-friendly descriptions of resources! if your OAuth screen looks like this, consider publishing/using permission sets. this is scary/useless/non-sensical to users

What if, for a year, we as atproto community focus on improving a major community lexicon every month We improve the hell out of it (if needed) and then integrate into existing apps where it makes sense and help each other to do so

Blocking Nazis and fascists doesn’t make a network an “echo chamber”. People need to stop gaslighting us into thinking we have to listen to Nazis and debate them in order to be informed. This is where #WSocial ’s apparent enthusiasm for bringing the far right into the conversation worries me.

Demand DCs use renewable energy. Demand access to open weight models. Learn how to use AI effectively to do things you couldn't otherwise. Dont fire strays at friends

I just heard a tech person say "I don't understand Markdown or know how to use it in any way, shape or form" and I don't know what to make of it.

Crap, it's 5:30 AM over here and I'm already craving for couscous. Thanks @pds.dad, you did this! 😆

Oussama@ouss.fyi

Ooh, then you gotta come to Morocco and taste the real thing! We call it "كسكسو 7 خضاري" which means 7-vegetable couscous. I like to have it w/ some extra "تفاية" (sweet caramelized onions w/ raisins, almonds and cinnamon). It's 😙🤌!

Friend: I got my kid art supplies but I'm afraid her room will get even messier... Me: Well, you already have street at home. Might as well have street art too!

We've been using Markdown w/ YAML/TOML frontmatters for years but still haven't figured out how to display them properly! 😆 No shade on @tangled.org though, this is a widespread issue.

X shuts down apps that show its posts. Bluesky exists to ernable it. One of these networks is about promoting freedom, the other is not.

patak@patak.cat

nitter.net is down. xcancel.com may go soon, too. all the respect to the folks at nitter for their services so far, but to be honest, X completely locking itself out of the web is probably a net positive for us all in the long term

Hey @simonwillison.net! I'm an avid reader of your blog. Can you remove the `#atom-everything` that gets added to your URLs when visiting from an RSS reader? It's not a big deal but it messes with my bookmarks. Sorry for the random request, I totally understand if you don't want to. Thanks 🙏

Pardon my French but...

It’s very clear by now that if LLMs are not improving your software quality it’s either a revealed preference (yours or your org’s) for more volume vs more quality, or a skill issue. The level of testing and review they are enabling in the Go cryptography standard library is amazing.

It's funny how "low-level virtual machine" is now a more accurate description of WASM than LLVM.

Is me learning stuff from an LLM a distillation attack? (I've heard it's illegal in 7 jurisdictions) 🫣

Yes, this is what convinced me that atproto's design is so much better than other networks.

Eli Mallon@iame.li

I love that the design of atproto was in part inspired by big social Kafka and ScyllaDB server backends and @martin.kleppmann.com's Designing Data-Intensive Applications and the community immediately used it to implement thousands of apps with no backend lol

"Acolyte des illustres" for "follower" is the one that finishes me 😂

ugh web is so complicated. that certificate authority looks quite centralized to me. and that CDN might end up expensive to run at scale. and do we really need another standard? just use email

My definition of magic (in programming) is when you make something nonsensical (kinda) work regardless. So to me, the Date API in JS is magic, but a hygienic macro system isn't.
