steadily removing defeatism and doomerism out of my life. life is too short to be whining about how everything is fucked and nothing can be done about it.

the Internet Archive thing is an example of the fascinating trend recently where people consuming products they’re not paying for seem to believe they also have the right to dictate how much human labor is spent producing them.

lots of people in the replies with zero technical knowledge and zero dimes donated to the internet archive having lots of opinions on how to maintain and secure a vital service, provided for free, with minimal downtime during an unprecedented hailstorm of CVEs

Internet Archive@archive.org

An update from Brewster Kahle on today's outage.

the entitlement is so fucking tiring, every single time nothing but mad respect for the people out there actually maintaining such vital infrastructure

starting to see some unironic PHP defence and: none of that, please it is an objectively bad language that was designed wrong from day one. yes, recent versions have improved it. just like C, though, it is all living legacy code that should be phased out

The details are now public, as of two hours ago. bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi... The secret P-384 keys for these intermediate CAs are all zeros except the last 8 bits. All not-updated software can be MITM'ed now. IOT boxes that can't or don't update are now trivially MITM'able forever.

downgrading sonnet 5.5 to sonnet 5 for the slightest hint of cybersecurity-related work is diabolical, i hate anthropic

this also applies to elaborate torture fantasies of LLMs. highly unpleasant! i'd probably avoid interaction at any cost!

nokyan 🫪@nokyan.net

sure, no "real" feelings are being hurt when calling an LLM "clanker", "wireback" or "tinskin" or whatever, but if you see no issue at all casually using terms that are so obviously made to look and sound like actual slurs used against actual people, you are probably a pretty unpleasant person

the gamer entitlement is fucking insane. they're yelling at a developer who has spent a decade of his time writing Dolphin and PPSSPP for using Claude to build a prototype. the same people who don't pay for their emulator, certainly don't pay for ROMs are entitled to bully developers now?

for the love of god something needs to be done about the g*za fundraising scam accounts on bluesky. i don't post that much but like 50% of my posts gets a repost by such an account. earlier today i even got a dm request of a scam account

maybe it's just my perception but if someone had defended copyright like this 10 years ago, people would have made fun of them. rightfully so.

responsible disclosure: I was a free-culture freak wayyy before LLMs you FUCK

white/dark grey void with blue accents 🤮🤢😡🥱 white/dark grey void with blue accents (2002) 😍🤩🥰✅

Imagine believing, like seriously being convinced, that the Internet used to be more colorful than it is today (and, on top, showing *those* apps as evidence.) Had to double check that the account is not satire. (Of course this is from a guy hysterically ranting about "AI slop" on Mastodon)

i have ascended to the heavenly realm of 1 gbps fiber internet. no longer am i shackled with a twisted pair of copper wires, condemned to the hellish purgatory of 50 mbps DSL

This is a transistor. It controls current between the collector and the emitter. It's a fancy dimmer switch. There is nothing this device can do that you couldn't already do with a bunch of dimmer switches. No matter how fast they are or how much Bell Labs hypes them, it's just a dimmer switch.

one of the funniest things to me about om*rchy is how stupidly bloated the iso is, it's 5.8 GB, like what the fuck is in there? fedora's isn't even 3 GB, the only distro's iso i've found that is bigger than omarchy's is ubuntu's at 6 GB

also there is a shitty 2024 suno ass song autoplaying (but thankfully muted) in the background about om*rchy what the actual fuck who uses this shit unironically

removed almost all my blocks because i figured i'm too liberal with the block button but some responses to bsky38 reeeaaally make me wanna block half of the website again

the anti anti ai labeler really is a godsent, it also highly correlates with people who just post stupid takes in general, outside of ai

how exactly do you miss that you included a command named 'rootshell' in your distro that gave instant unauthorized root access for all users how does this even happen *why* would it even exist

i dont really understand how people use mastodon as serious social media when something as basic as keyword search just plainly does not work. when searching for posts with a specific word, i get like a dozen results and then the results just stop, as if there weren't other posts containing the word

and the amount of reposts/quotes/likes being shown on the post itself literally never being anywhere close to the amount of entries in the list when you click the number

and no i won't search for hashtags because it's not 2016 anymore and not every interesting word in a post is always a hashtag

and the "there might be more replies to that post on the original instance, and i'm not showing them to you :)" omfggggg

owning the evil scrapers (how dare they download my public website on the public web) by making the site just unusable for everyone

nokyan 🫪@nokyan.net

the anti scraper thing took legitimately 2 minutes to pass on my pixel 7 with firefox

migration from docker to rootless systemd quadlets pretty much done, im not yet daring to expose it to the web though, that will come tomorrow after looking more into hardening and all that

but being able to use systemctl and journalctl feels soooo much better, it feels so much more native and less bolted on like docker
