(my skull is being crushed by the evil robots from Terminator) technically I'm not getting killed, the machines are just powering their motors in a way that is predicted to end my life according to their training data
A jailbreak for the Switch 2 discovered by Codex has been announced. Bluesky responds:
If AI was used to notice that the private key was 4 then I'm going right back to trusting that cert. Principles are principles.
This is an absolutely astounding press release from eMudhra. No apology, a suggestion that the researcher who found their private keys must have used AI, and an attempt to shift blame to auditors... wow. emudhra.com/en/press-release/emudhra-statement-distrust-global-tls-intermediate-root-ca

Someone passed me on their e-bike without using a bell, which is basically the same thing
Wichita police say a 34-year-old woman from Garden City has been released pending the results of a toxicology report and a vehicle inspection. They also identified the 6-year-old boy and 35-year-old man who were killed Saturday afternoon. (@kmuw.bsky.social)
The hard problem of UX: the designer says single-tap should bring up a dialog within the "instantly" threshold (400ms), but a double-tap (defined as two taps within 500ms) should do a completely different thing
in cs a "hard problem" is one that's a member of some hardness class, while in math they call a problem hard if it's one existing analytical tools can't crack. meanwhile in philosophy they call a problem hard if it's just poorly posed nonsense and kinda a waste of time to think about

Bender's argument here, taken down a notch in rhetoric, is basically the same as the one used by people who think fan death is real and refuse to engage with emprical evidence. You want me to sleep in a room with a fan on? A thing that could *kill* me? Do you see how wildly irresponsible that is?
It is absolutely bananas that one of the most prominent anti-AI experts in America is talking like this. Talking to ChatGPT isnβt like doing heroin or downloading child porn. It will not hurt you and has no ethical valence. It will help you understand the nature of something that is now endemic.
Sitting out a ballot proposition is the only way we're going to break free from the yes/no dichotomy of doing something or not doing it
A new example of the unique brainworms found in the San Francisco left: DSA-SF has apparently refused to take a position on Proposition G, which would destroy Sunset Dunes park and reopen the Great Highway to cars. Why? It doesn't achieve "working-class justice."
If you stipulate that the CNC machine is "cutting" (or even "drilling", "milling", and "tapping"), then you've begged the question.
If you stipulate that what it's doing is "reasoning" (or even "writing", "drawing", and "talking"), then you've begged the question. In addition to knowing no philosophy of mind, you have some science fiction to catch up on; nothing is happening that didn't happen in SF like a century ago.
Data entry connects me to the ineffable glory of the Creator
My favorite kind of hater post is βyou tech bros will never understand the primal, numinous beauty of [most spiritually empty shit imaginable]β the allegedly sublime: Doing homework Taco Bell DoorDash Writing sql queries Booking flights

Combining all the security reports into one mega-report, like Voltron "What if you ask the OS for a BSTR* and it allocates you one at 0x00000004? Then when you check the length you'll null dereference. This is a denial of service attack"
Not sure who needs to hear this but there is not a sensible threat model where you have to defend against the possibility that the operating system lies to you about the size of a block of memory it allocated
