This is for DC-area people. I'm interested in meeting left-leaning people with interest in science, science policy, and/or applications of data science methods to politics. If anybody has suggestions for lists, meetups, or feeds, I'm interested.

Color guy of tonight's #Celtics broadcast thinks there might be a debate about whether Paul George makes the Hall of Fame. Paul George is a 9-time All-Star. He's a lock. Compared to MLB and NFL, the Basketball Hall is not hard to get in. #NBA

Imagine seeing this and thinking that the only way Dems could win elections was by allowing another Great Depression. Such a painful lack of logical rigor.

"The gop has always had the advantage in a nation with conservative traditions. " No, it hasn't. Have you read any history of what this country was like before Reagan? From 1932-1980, Dems consistently maintained large majorities in Congress, with brief and underwhelming exceptions.

I think Clinton, Obama and Biden did good things when they had Democratic majorities but if you compare it to what Reagan, Bush and Trump have done you can comprehend why we need to change this culture where we simply dont demand enough of the Democratic Party.

Elon Musk boosted the lie that James Talarico stayed at a mental hospital. Meta suspended No Kings’ Instagram account during nationwide actions. Staff at the Ellison-owned CBS News were reportedly told to tie Abdul El-Sayed to the Muslim Brotherhood and 9/11. Democracy dies in billionaire hands.

Wrote last week on The Rooster about Conman cutting an ad with Amy Acton's estranged mother as his "October surprise." Well, here it is. Polling on it just went out.

I’ve seen a few folks comment that “Guinea-Bissau is a low income country and cannot afford the hep B vaccine birth dose, so why is this study unethical?” It’s a good question. Let me have a go at answering it. In a nutshell, researchers cannot ethically exploit poverty & scarcity to do a trial

Prof Gavin Yamey MD MPH@gavinyamey.bsky.social

Holy shit FOUR members of the ethics committee in Denmark that gave the green light to allow the widely-condemned RFK Jr-funded trial to proceed in Guinea-Bissau have now resigned in protest This quote is 🔥 Great reporting by @melodyschreiber.com www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Q: Can Ukraine win this war without the US? Zelenskyy: "If it's without the US' support, it's very difficult. But if the US will support Putin, I mean, it's unbelievable. It's a historic mistake and big tragedy. If the US officially will take the side of Russia, of course we will not prevail,

Was at gym on treadmill and made mistake of having direct view of TV set to FoxNews. Their only story was "violent protests in France." As evidence they showed clouds of tear gas. At one point, the chyron mentioned "hundreds of protesters."

Elon Musk is spending $158 million on Ken Paxton’s campaign. That’s more than the Make-A-Wish Foundation's annual revenue. Some people grant wishes to kids fighting serious illnesses. Other people bankroll a crooked pol whose make-a-wish was partying in Dubai with 2 fugitives from fraud charges.

Career staff at the CFTC were investigating suspiciously timed trades surrounding Trump’s announcement that the U.S. would not bomb Iranian power plants. Then a senior adviser to Trump’s CFTC commissioner told them to back off. Could this administration get any more corrupt?

This morning I re-watched my video argument with the NY Times' Patrick Healy, and it's clear that the Times believes if it says explicity that the Trump regime is assaulting democracy, that would undermine its work to investigate how the regime is assaulting democracy. What an absurd position.

Mark Jacob@markjacob.bsky.social

🧵🧵🧵 The NY Times posted a 15-minute video today in which I got to tell NYT what’s wrong with its coverage. They said they saw my critical posts on Bluesky and invited me to do a video with them to air my grievances. Weird, right? I didn’t hold back. I blasted their sanewashing of MAGA extremism.

I do not expect the USPS to screw with ballots. The Trump admin lost their case that would have allowed/forced the USPS to do this. The right wants the left to think that this is going to happen, though, and we've been seeing intentional disinformation about this.

That $366 million Elon is spending to try and convince voters that Congress should stay Republican? It's more money than McCain's 2008 campaign spent. But it's also, relative to Musk's net worth, the same as a household at the median income spending $32.

‘Scumbags’ is the right word here (there are others) and Levy is the right man. Even if Gillis does this shit to get ‘edgy credits’ it needs to be denounced, especially by men. Allow me to denounce, please. Thank you.

Razzball@razzball.bsky.social

Some people really love Gillis and I’m still formulating why (not because he’s funny) but I think it’s because they think he’s some sort of truth teller in a Woke world. “No one else is saying women are whores for their clothing choice” is just not true tho. Scumbags say it all the time

I think Ds have largely avoided big discussions of Musk because the other messages they're concentrating on our landing so well and you can only concentrate on a few things. But it's worth saying clearly that the GOP is the tool of maintaining Musk's power over American society.

Musk has funneled more than $276 million into Republican groups and his PAC since July, building a huge turnout operation for the midterms. “The staggering amount of money makes Mr. Musk, the richest person in the world, by far the largest known donor in the midterms” www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/u...
